Hi, I've a few Spyware programs running, also use Firefox brwser (but keep the IE around for those places that Firefox is not supported). Lately the system is slow, and could use any help in reviewing the attached Hijack log file. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Sorry for the delay in responding, but we have been pretty busy here lately. Since your log might have changed since your last posting, I would like to see a new log. If you could please post a new log, I will be glad to review it.
Below is a new log file (8-12-2005) per your request:

I did a few things since my original post, which have helped, but still some currious things in the file, and not the same performance I was getting awhile back:
1) I uninstalled Firefox since I got a message from myInternetCleanup Activity about "possible backdoor activity".
2) I installed Ad-Aware and A2 scanning software which came across a copule of tracking cookies. All were deleted.
3) I did the latest 'critical' Microsoft Update (~8/10/2005)

Ok, I really don't see much in your log, but let's run some scans. Please run full scans with Ad-Aware SE and Spybot-S&D as follows:
(If you already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 and Spybot 1.4 installed, you can skip the installation steps. If you don't, please uninstall your old versions and install the new ones from the links below.)

Full Ad-Aware Scan
Please download Ad-Aware SE from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
Install Ad-Aware and run it. In the bottom-right hand corner, click "Check for updates now". Click "Connect" to download the newest reference file.

Now we will configure Ad-Aware to perform a full scan. In the Ad-Aware main window, click on the gear icon at the top of the screen to open the preferences window. In the "General" window, make sure the following options are selected:
1) Automatically save log-file
2) Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
3) Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Click the "Scanning" button on the left-hand side and make sure the following options are selected:
1) Scan within archives
2) Scan active processes
3) Scan registry
4) Deep scan registry
4) Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLs
5) Scan my Hosts file

Please also click on "Select drives & folders to scan" and select your hard drive(s). Then click the "Advanced" button on the left-hand side and make sure all the options under "Log-file Detail Level" are selected. Next, click the "Tweak" button on the left-hand side. Click on "Scanning Engine" and make sure the following options are selected:
1) Unload recognized processes & modules during scanning
2) Obtain command line of scanned processes
3) Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Click on "Cleaning Engine" and make sure the following options are selected:
1) Always try to unload modules before deletion
2) During removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
3) Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
4) Delete quarantined objects after restoring

Finally, click on "Safety Settings" and make sure the following options are selected:
1) Automatically select problematic objects in results lists
2) Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)

Click on "Proceed" to save the preferences. Then please click the "Start" button on the bottom right side to begin a scan. Select "Use custom scanning options" and then click "Next". Ad-Aware will then scan for malware. When it is finished, make sure any objects listed in RED are selected and click "Next" to remove the objects. Then please restart your computer.

Spybot Full Scan
Next, please download Spybot-S&D from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2471
Install Spybot-S&D and run it. Select "Search for updates" and then select all available updates. Click on the drop-down box in the top center to choose a download location nearest to you. Then click "Download updates". When all updates have downloaded, close Spybot-S&D, and then run it again. Click on "Check for problems". When the scan has finished, select any entries listed in red and click "Fix selected problems". Then please restart your computer again.
I have run these for some time. Now and then I get a something come in on Ad Aware. (mining cookies, which I "fix all". In spy bot, I have not had anything come up in quite some time. I reboot, run Ad Award over, every thing is clear. Usually after some browsing, I'll run again and now and then something shows up, andI fix it. Even after I removed Firefox awhile back, in the last week I got a notice from Alladin (Internet Cleanup) that FireTile.exe and Mozigma.exe were still suspicious problems. Without Firefox, I don't believe these are necesary, so I delete them from the a-sqared software that brought the "suspicious behavior" to my attention. Mosty, the system is is running better now without Firefox, and perhps Ad Adware caught something. It is still a bit slow when drilling through directories when trying to do things like save attachments in Outlook (or similar Save As functions)… I think we can close this up for now, and see if it gets worse: unless you have other suggestions. Thank you for your assistance.
First of all, I would uninstall Internet Cleanup as it is listed on the Rogue AntiSpyware list and is know for false positives. I understand that you run Ad-aware, but I have given options that will run a more complete scan. If you do not want to do the scan, then I can provide the next steps in the process.

As a side note, some older versions of FireFox did have some system utilization issues, but those appear to have been fixed in the newer versions.
I'm sorry I wasn't quite clear. I ran the scans as you defined them a few times since you made your 8/12 post, which is what I was tryinh to describing in my last post. I was aware of some of the problems with false positives with "internet Cleanup", but it does catch some real stuff also. However, I will uninstall to see if it makes a difference in performance. The few of the Data mining cookies that Ad Aware caught and then repaired are Hitbox, pro-market, 2o7,perf.overture. I delete all , reboot, re-run the scan and all is OK. But I still get some performance problem as I mentioned in my prior post.
Ok, let's keep going then with the scans. Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Run the scan and allow it fix what it finds. Please post the log for me to review.
I removed the InternetCleanup (for now atleast), and ran the latest scan… Came out clean… ——————————————————— ewido security suite - Scan report ——————————————————— + Created on: 10:28:00 PM, 8/17/2005 + Report-Checksum: DB0D4780 + Scan result: No infected objects found. ::Report End
Please download the free MWAV antivirus tool from here. Save it to the desktop and run it. Follow the prompts to scan your system for viruses. Then please post for me the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window. Please remove any lines relating to "Invalid object" as they are not needed at this time.
I ran MWAV as noted (took a long time)… Two items came up that were not "invalid objects": - - - - - - Directly from the dialog box: Object "Unknown Toolbar Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken. Object "RedV Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken. - - - - - - Coresponding entries from the "View Log": Thu Aug 18 07:42:07 2005 => Offending Folder found: C:\DOCUME~1\gabriel\APPLIC~1\share-to-web upload folder Thu Aug 18 07:42:18 2005 => Object "Unknown Toolbar Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken. Thu Aug 18 07:42:42 2005 => Offending file found: C:\DOCUME~1\gabriel\LOCALS~1\Temp\insthelp.dll Thu Aug 18 07:42:42 2005 => System found infected with RedV Spyware/Adware (insthelp.dll)! Action taken: No Action Taken. BTW, There were quite a few "invalid objects"…
Ok only the second one is of any concern. Let's zap the temp files and see if we get it. Download: CCleaner (freeware)
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Once installed, run CCleaner click the Windows
Select the following:
[external image: Posted Image]
Next: click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit. Reboot your computer, then run a new MWav scan as before and let's see if it still comes up.
That one is gone now. Unfortunately my prior Ad Aware and Spybot logs are also gone… I now have changed the CCleaner setting so these don't get wiped out. Shouldn't be a problem?
I forgot that part… It looks like performance has improved, but I still see some slowdown when moving through Save-As directories under Outlook. It is better than it was. I will need to use it some more to really tell. I'm satisfied at this point, unless you have some more tricks.
