Apologies for the delay in reponding to your log.

Several infections are present in the log.

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from Spybot Search and Destroy
(This is the NEW Version 1.4)
Get AdAware SE Personal from Lavasoft
(This is the NEW Build 1.6)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

Configure Adaware

Configure Spybot

Reboot after running each program.

Please try this free online virus scan of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let it remove any infections found. Reboot after the scan.

When finished, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Thanks for your reply – I tried running the three programs (AdAware, Spybot, and Housecall) as you described. Each finds a number of infections which I attempt to remove but they return after rebooting… I've attached my updated log… any thoughts? thanks!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of these noted file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

Thanks, I tried this, however while in safe mode none of the files that you mentioned seem to be present (even when searching for hidden files), either in the locations you said or elsewhere on the drive.

I deleted the files in the temporary directories, as you suggested.

However, when I reboot in normal mode, adaware immediately recognizes all of the usual suspects making registry modifications.

I've attached the latest hijack this log.

I don't see any software running that would inhibit the "fixes" we're trying to make. :scratch:

I have an idea, but I need to know the "full path names" of two of the files.

Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

dir c:\mouapi32.exe /a h /s > files.txt
dir c:\mriusl.exe  /a h /s >> files.txt
notepad files.txt


Save it to your desktop as ff.bat.

Now, the ff.bat file on the desktop.

It may take a few moments, depending on the size of your hard drive, and the speed of your machine, but a Notepad window will open up.

Please paste it's contents into your next post.

We'll use a utility called "Killbox".

Hrm, both files are not found. My computer seems to be working OK now although the offending programs still show up in the HiJackThis log?

It might seem to be fine, but you have malware on it. If you have the time, maybe an hour, post a new log, and we'll see what we can remove If you don't have the time right now, wait until you see me on again when you do have the time, and I'll help you then :)

The Dell Support popped up and clean up "unused" items in start-up… I did this and then reran HiJack This and cleaned up some of the items you mentioned earlier… here's the latest scan – does this look clean?

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
