Hello VonDrake, welcome to the forum. Sorry about the delay in responding :( If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Thanks LDTate for getting back to me - here's the latest scan.

I still have no particular problems other than a longer shut down than usual, which began when I uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus, but that's a topic for another forum.

Please let me know if this HijackThis log checks out okay. I'd still like to know.

Much Thanks

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode

Press the F8 key, when you see the Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen.

Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

To configure Windows to show all files

Do the following:

On the Windows desktop, double-click the My Computer icon.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.

Do the following:

Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY Listed Profile USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Hello LDTate:

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I've followed all your suggestions, below you will find the new log file.

Please let me know if it looks clear to you.

Two further questions:

> Where can I find out about what those 9 items were that HijackThis just fixed?

> I've got the latest Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Avast Anti-Virus protection. I'm on dial-up, should I also install a software firewall? Or are these items that Hijacked my PC not really particularly destructive?

Thanks again for your terrific help in this matter.

1. Use Google and do a search for each one if you want, but the show No File No Name.

2. Yes, I would use a Firewall like Sygate's free personal firewall.
Go here and download SyGate Personal Firewall 5.X Basic Firewall

http://www.sygate.ca/free/downloads.htm

just fill out the information.

Good Job

In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.

2.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, on the View menu, click Folder Options.
In Windows Me/2000/XP, on the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, check Hide file extensions for known file types.

3.Do one of the following:
In Windows 98, in the Advanced Settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, unclick Show all files.

If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
