Thanks!
Welcome to the forum.

You are using an old version of HJT, could you please delete it and rescan the system with the new version and post that log.
When you do, please download HJT into its own folder so backups can be made.

example: C:\MyHJT\HJT.exe or C:\MyDocuments\MyHJT\HJT.exe

Thanks, MrC

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Run AboutBuster again

Now open up the KillBox and copy and paste each one of these in and hit delete, if the file exists, it will appear in blue under the window, if not move on to the next file.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\r?ndll32.exe
C:\Program Files\ipee\othb.exe
c:\windows\system32\ndpyqf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\gemrk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msce.exe
C:\Program Files\WareOut\WareOut.exe

Delete these also - you'll have to search for them:
newbreed.exe
cmon14.exe
syspanel.exe

Delete these folders: You can try using the KillBox - just copy the full path in and hit delete.
C:\Program Files\ipee
C:\Program Files\WareOut

The KillBox has a 'delete on reboot' option - use it if needed.

Here's how……
Open up the KillBox.
Select the Delete on Reboot option.
In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete copy and paste each one of these in one at a time.
Hit the delete button
OK
Do the next file
After that LAST file path has been entered and you press OK
Reboot the computer
If you recieve an error message and your computer doesn't restart, please restart it manually.

The KillBox creates a folder called "!submit" in C:\ , after you are done you can delete the folder.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
The list is shorter!

The O15's are gone.

I thought I had previously deleted the R1-HKCU\…gemrk.dll's and they did not appear on the HJT log for deletion as directed. None of the other listed R1's or R3's were there either.

Didn't find newbreed, cmon14, or syspanel in any step this go around.

Didn't find r?ndll32.exe, WareOut or ipee.

Didn't find O19 User stylesheet: (file missing).

As it seem rather suspicious to me, I deleted an O23-Service: Content Monitoring Tool (msCMTservc)-Unknown owner-C:WINDOWS\System32\msCMTSrvc.exe (file missing) that apparently wasn't on your last posting but majically appeared. It appears to have survived my renegade bravado.

In KillBox, it appeared to have found ipee\othb.exe without resorting to reboot. The others I left to reboot for deleting - generally indicated they weren't found.

Searched for newbreed, cmon14 and syspanel to no avail. Asked KillBox to delete on reboot anyway.

By the way, on the desk top after the previous work we did, a set of faded icons appeared for hpothb07.tif, thumbs.db and hpothb07.dat??

On the new log, a line O17 appears that looked a little questionable but rather than delete, I figured I'd have you look at it. It appears to have an O23 relative as well. The darned O23's seem to be persistent. Still there in all their glory. :weee:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

This one is OK - from Compaq

O23 - Service: Content Monitoring Tool (msCMTSrvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msCMTSrvc.exe (file missing)

Why do you think this is bad?

when we are done - just undo this: (you want to hide the hidden files again)

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

For these……….

O23 - Service: svchost.exe (moto) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Open up HJT, "miscellaneous tools" "delete a NT service"
We want to delete:
moto
LocalAgent

You may have to run HJT and check these:

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running.

O23 - Service: Local Security Manager (LocalAgent) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe" "-k svchost (file missing)
O23 - Service: svchost.exe (moto) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

IN RE: 04-HKLM\..\Run:[MSConfig]

My computer was having problems running some software some time back and in order to get things to work I tweaked the MSConfig a little. It now comes up every time I log in. I left it that way to remind me to tweak it back, but alas, I have not done that yet. Would this explain its presence? I don't need to run that software any more so I can reset it to whatever settings it should have and keep it from auto running. But that is just a guess. I will be at my computer tonight and try to get more info on the C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\…\ business. I don't know with certainty what that is about.

IN RE: O17-Service: Content Monitoring Tool (msCMTSrvc)…..
It just sounded suspect to me…..

I gave your directions a quick try this morning and don't think I had any success. Using the "delete a NT service" didn't want to work. Now that I am away from that computer, I am a little unsure but I think the message said that the progarms (moto and LocalAgent) were running and had to be terminated via the HJT Log process. All programs appeared to be closed as far as I could tell.

If you happen to read this today before I go back to work on my machine, let me know.

Thanks Tractor

When I went into the C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth deal, the MSCONFIG tabs came up. While there, I went under the start up tab and found several items that had check marks by them and looked to be running including the cowardly newbreed.exe, cmon14.exe, syspanel.exe, othb - C:\Program Files\ipee\othb.exe, WareOut - "C:\Program Files\WareOut\WareOut.exe" and rundll32 - C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe. I clicked on the disable all button and now am about to do a restart and then retry the deletion effort. Wish me luck. Tractor   :o :P
OK I chickened out. I didn't restart just in case one of the items was a must have on start up. Better to be thought a fool than to restart and remove all doubt!
