Hello hansdblo7

You may want to print this, or copy and place it in a Notepad file, on your desktop, to read as you work.

Download the stand-alone version of CWShredder 2.12
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe

Then close every window, disconnect from Internet and doubleclick the CWShredder icon on your Desktop.
Click Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Next:
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Next:
Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK, and delete them (if they are present):

C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll

C:\WINDOWS\System32\crt32_v2.dll

C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

This Program must also be removed in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.
C:\Program Files\VVSN

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Reboot , enable hidden files and post a fresh Hijack This log in this thread, Using the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.

Note: Do not attempt to "Fix" anything in the new log, as we need to see the entire log.
These are the symptoms:
1. McAfee Private service at start up causes the syst to freeze 3 out of 5 times when booting.

2. takes longer to shut down, apprx 25-35 sec. where as before, it took like 15 seconds.

3. start up tray area (where it hides the icons with arrow) sometimes after booting does not work or show any – I got like 5 usually starting.

4. takes really long to get online – about couple of months ago, it took like .5 seconds to get on. I have cable.

symptom #1 is very serious, I've tried to manually remove the program including the registry (by the instruction) and re-installed, yet no luck. :rant2:

My system is: 3GHZ, 2G RAM, 120 and 160G SDRIVES, GeForce FX 5200 card. and about 1.5 yrs old. from Dell :o with XPHome
Thanks guys. I hope I can do something for you guys in return as well in the future with maybe other things.

This is a sincere question. I've posted a question before once and never got any responses. Today about 10am or so, I posted another set of questions but only mine is not getting any answers or help. Have I done something wrong or Is it because there are nothing to fix? thanks.
Hi everyone. I'm writing for the third time just today and something just occured to me. :rant2: The first post was in the moring 10:29am and the second one posted at 4:13pm begging why you good guys won't answer my questions and suddenly it came to me. Perhaps I've done something wrong when I originally registered and somehow, I didn't enable something so that you guys can write back to me. Is this right? I'm the only one where my posting has no little orange square mark with a dog ear next to the topic title and my envelope symbol looks different from ALL others'. Can please someone be generous enough to e-mail me what it may be? thanks a lot. Here is my e-mail address. [removed]
I hate to be mean to ya, but these guys are doing this from there own time! They can't just instantly slove your problem like at the snap of your fingers. They get dozens of requests per day. You have to be patient… I had to wait 5 days and my problem still hasen't been solved but I know eventually they will do it and they will get the job done. These guys are like fire fighters, show them some respect man!
Sincere thanks to all who replied for me. I genuinely thought that I got you guys frustrated for not having done something. Sorry if I had you guys think that I'm being impatient. I hope this message gets to the right ones. thanks again and I heard you guys loud and clear. I do appreciate it. MOD EDIT: All threads have been merged into one. Please stick to one thread. Someone responded to your original thread and is still awaiting a response.

Hi hansdblo7;

I understand how upsetting it can be when our machines are not cooperating.
Also, I know it seems that everyone is getting replies and we are expected to wait patiently. The helpers here and other places too, are located all over the world, in different time zones. We also have different levels of expertise and some of us reply only if we are sure we can be of help, so some never get a reply, or it is a very long time coming. Also, regrettably, some are simply overlooked, or bypassed. Yes, we are all volunteers and have lives away from our PCs, so that also has to be taken into account.
And finally, these boards can be confusing and it is not uncommon that users become disoriented, or do not know some of the many oddities of a site, since each site seems to have its own special set of barriers to overcome.

Your HJT logfile looks much better and I can find nothing that would seem to be causing problems. The question is, how is your pc doing now ?

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=11150
-reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
I also suggest that you delete any files from "temp", "tmp" folders. In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" => "Internet Options" => "Delete Files" and select the box that says "Delete All Offline Content" and click on "OK" twice. Also, empty the recycle bin by right clicking on it and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin". These steps should be done on a regular basis.

And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place?

You did have at least one very serious virus, so that was no doubt one source of your difficulties.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do reply and let us know how your PC is doing now.
To reply, please use the Post Reply feature and reply in this string, so I will be notified.
Dear Piatan;

I'm finally writing back to you after having followed all recommendations of yours including cleaning by installing all softwares you mentioned and re-enabling the system restore. After creating the restore point however, I elected to run disk error check on the drive and defragged as well. After that, I backed up the drive using Sonic Backup MyPC Deluxe (including the system state). It seems to me too as you've stated that all viruses and errors are gone but one thing has changed sicne defrag. Right after installing spyguard, I always saw the icon in the tray area by the start up (I optioned to hide when not active) but since the defrag, I don't see it anymore, even if I choose to "always show."
I do see the program from Startup tab from System Consfiguration Utility and if I hit the icon on the desktop it shows the sand clock flash real quick but I just don't see it in the tray. Is this OK? Could something have happened after defrag? or Disk error check? This is the latest log and Thank You again. :wavey:

Hi hansdblo7; You're welcome. It is a pleasure working with you. I'm far from being an expert on the workings of SpywareGuard. My recommendation would be to completely uninstall the program in Add/Remove programs. Then do an All Files search for any lingering files and delete them too. Then reinstall the program and see if it behaves itself. It sounds like you have things well in hand. Running a Diskchek and doing a defrag is one step closer to having a well running machine. Backing up the HD is something we all need to take more seriously, myself included. Your Hijack This logfile is still clean.
Glad we could be of help.
