Hi, I am getting a Norton pop up stating unable to remove the above virus. Also getting a runtime error message Can anyone suggest a way of removing it from my PC? Thanks in advance Col11
Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.

Download HijackThis into this folder.

If required a tutorial is here = Hijackthis Folder Tutorial

Links to Hijack This! v 1.99.1:

Hijack This! at tools.radiosplace.com

Hijack This! at spywarewarrior.com

Hijack This! at TomCoyote.org

Run it from that folder.

Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

DO NOT "FIX" ANYTHING WITH IT YET!!!
FIXING THE WRONG THING COULD RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE!!!

Reply to this thread, and "copy/paste" the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the log file into this thread.

I'll look it over for any malware. :)
Micah, Thanks alot for this.

Firstly, I could not run any of the 3 programms for various reasons.

Trend-Micro Housecall asked me to download ActiveX which I was not sure of.

Panda Activescan came up with "error on downloading" so I restarted & it came up with the same message at the same time as Norton gave a message for the Trojan horse.

Etrust Security Advisor - Control failed to load & asks are you using Internet explorer 4.0 or higher.

I ran hijach this regardless and here are the results

Thanks again
Col11

Trend-Micro Housecall asked me to download ActiveX which I was not sure of.

That is necessary.

Let it download that active-x & do the scan then reboot.

Also, try another link for Hijack This!

The newest version is 1.99.1, and you're running an older version.

When you download the newest version, please follow the directions in my first post about making a folder for it and downloading it into that folder.

Your current version is running from a "temporary" folder.
:)
Apologies!

I have ran house call but the other two programs failed to run.

Here is the latest HJT log.

Thanks for your patience

Did the scan remove anything?

Are you still having virus alerts?

The only thing in the log I can say looks remotely "suspicious" is this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HDAudio Driver 2.0] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hvtdavxd.exe

Do you know if that is a legitimate piece of software?
Yes, I am still getting the Norton message. Not sure if thats a legit piece of software. How would I find out?? Cheers Col11
Please post the "full path name" (i.e. "C:\windows\virus.exe") of any files Norton has a problem with.

As for the file in question, please try this:

Go here:

Kaspesky Online Virus Checker

And submit:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hvtdavxd.exe

For a virus scan & let me know what it says. :)
The full path name is: C:\WINDOWS\svciohos1at.exe I get 2 seperate messages namely unable to remove this file and unable to access this file. Results from Kaspesky are shown below, Thanks: Online Virus Scanner Attention! Kaspersky Anti-Virus has detected a virus in the file you have submitted. We suggest that you consider: Reading about the virus/viruses in our Virus Encyclopedia Downloading a trial version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus Purchasing a copy of Kaspersky Anti-Virus in our E-Store Purchasing Kaspersky Anti-Virus from a certified partner Scanned file: hvtdavxd.exe hvtdavxd.exe - infected by Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.qu Statistics: Known viruses: 138362 Updated: 15-07-2005 File size (Kb): 47 Virus bodies: 1 Files: 1 Warnings: 0 Archives: 0 Suspicious: 0
Download killbox from here

Killbox.zip

Then unzip it, BUT DON'T RUN IT YET.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HDAudio Driver 2.0] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hvtdavxd.exe

Then click "Fix checked".

Close Hijack This!

Run Killbox and paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\svciohos1at.exe

Check the button to the left of "Delete on Reboot".

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes".

After the reboot, find and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hvtdavxd.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Post a new Hijack This! log file, in this thread, and let me know if Norton is still complaining about anything. :)
Micah

Just followed your instructions to the letter and so far no messages from Norton.

I think my Norton may have expired. Can you recommend any further measure I can take to prevent a similar thing from occuring again.

Many thanks, now my woman can get on with the online shopping safely.

D'oh - just had the same message pop up from Norton!!

Heres the log. What next??

Cheers

There is hope!!!!

Read this link

Looks strangely familiar to YOUR problem.

Click here to download ewido security suite - it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

After Ewido is updated:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin (do not open any folders or open the windows control panel while the scan is in progress).
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Make another Hijack This! log file, "copy/paste" it into your next post, along with the report.txt file saved from Ewido.

And also let me know if problems persist. :)
Thanks, do I need to follow the instructions from the link to the similar problem also or just your instructions. Thanks Col11
