Hi, been trying to cut down on all unneccessary processes and removed just about everything I feel is neccessary for now. Just wondering about this line:

O23 - Service: .netfsmvetat - - (no file)

Anyone know what it is - google search returned nothing for me, can't 'Fix' with HijackThis, searched for spyware with Ad-Aware and The Cleaner and scanned with AVG Antivirus (all up to date) and nothing suspicious found.

Probably nothing major as I haven't noticed any strange behaviour, but it would be nice to know what it is and whether i can get rid of it : )

Thanks in advance,
Eoin.
We are sorry for the delay in replying to you.

I see that you are running msconfig in /auto mode which means that you may have selectively removed some items in the past from the startup procedure. This can be bad if they are malware, so we would like you to re-enable those startup entries by doing the following:

Please click on start < run, and type msconfig and then press enter. When the window opens click on the startup tab and make sure there are checkmarks in every entry. Then press ok until you are out of the program. If it asks to reboot, do not reboot.

Now please create a new Hijackthis Log and post it as a reply to this thread. You may now uncheck all of those items again in msconfig.

I'll receive an e-mail notification of your reply and will respond as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.
Thanks for your reply, here's the new log as requested:

Strangely enough .netfsmvetat is no longer anywhere to be seen, however there are still two blank entries in msconfig which i'm unsure of. Also the Cult3D ActiveX player is something new which I think may have something to do with my my nokia phone software (?).

All in all i'd like to get rid of all unneccessary startup items and processes except for msn.

Thanks again,
Eoin Bradley
Hello Inema and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

You do not have anything bad in your log. How is the computer running?

Read this topic for an explanation of the blank entries in msconfig. http://castlecops.com/postt80787.html

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
Detects the "Easy Front-Panel Audio Connectivity Drive Internal Drive Bay" on the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinium eX. Can be disabled if you don't have one
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SBDrvDet] C:\Program Files\Creative\SB Drive Det\SBDrvDet.exe /r

System Tray icon used to change display settings, change the clock rate and memory speed for nVidia based graphics cards. This is unnecessary since you can easily configure these settings the way you want them in the Display Properties and not have to mess with them again. Also disable the "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service" if enabled as it can cause this entry to be re-enabled on re-boot (note that this service can also cause extreme shutdown delays if enabled
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

System Tray icon for Nokia PC Suite. PC Suite lets you synchronize, edit, and back up many of your phone's files on a compatible PC through a wireless or cable connection. PC Suite can also be launched through Start Menu.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCSuiteTrayApplication] C:\PROGRA~1\Nokia\NOKIAP~1\TRAYAP~1.EXE

Nokia PC Suite 5 - "A collection of powerful tools that you can use to manage your phone features and data." Synchronize the phone with, for example Outlook. You can also use it to browse your phone, edit the phone list and so on
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DataLayer] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\PCSuite\DATALA~1\DATALA~1.EXE

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Reboot the computer and scan with HijackThis log. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

SBDrvDet is still running as i have (and use) the front bay for the audigy.

The pc is running great, thanks for all the help.

Your new log appears clean. :)

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE
a² Free Trojan Remover

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
