Hey Guys!

I reallyyyy need your help. I have been bombarded with a million random popups without having to open the IE browser. I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING possible.
I have eliminated a lot but it always comes back. Evil popups I swear!!!

Please help me!!!

Take care,
Jenn

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

You have a tricky hijacker that will take special steps to remove.

Please print this page now to be sure you follow all the directions.

Click here to download and install Registrar Lite.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Run Reglite, and paste the BOLD text below into Reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Double-click "Appinit_Dlls" value in right pane. And look in the 'Value' box at the bottom of the new pane.

The value should contain: C:\Windows\System32\mad.dll.

IF "mad.dll' is NOT in the 'Value' box, STOP here, and let me know.

Close that "new pane".

Right-click on the Windows key in the left pane and rename it to Windows2. Then double-click "Appinit_Dlls" value in right pane once more.

Then erase the data in the 'Value' box at the bottom of the new pane.

Click 'Apply' and 'OK' to set.

Right-click on the Windows2 key in the left pane and rename it back to Windows.

Close Reglite.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteowm32.exe

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwe…etup1.0.0.8.cab

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Find and delete:

c:\windows\system32\eliteowm32.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\mad.dll <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

These entries below are to an "adult content dialer".

Do you wish to remove it?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ASDPLUGIN] C:\WINDOWS\system32\canada.exe -N

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HELPER] C:\WINDOWS\system32\canada.exe -N
Hey Micah…

I tried using Registrar. I pasted

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

but I can't find: Appinit_Dlls anywhere!

Please help.
sorry Micah…it was a mistake on my part…I found my way through the first step. I'll post a new hijackthis log soon :) - jenn
I have followed the instructions you have given me but I could not find within the log:

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwe…etup1.0.0.8.cab

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

and I could not manually delete mad.dll because I could not locate the file but I did manage to delete: eliteowm32.exe

I recently used ewido…and other spyware programs…could that have elimited my missing documents.

Thanks again Jenn.
Hey Micah!

THis is my new log…

Thanks so much again!

- Jenn

Great job!

Ewido is a good program.

Just a "cleanup" item in the log.

All the malware is gone!!!

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot, and you're "good to go".

GOD bless you and yours!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.
