hi jamie823, i dont see malware in your hjt log. you are using a proxy, did you set this up? maybe your isp or Propel Accelerator requires it? shelf life
shelf life, thank so much for taking the time to reply… however im not very computer savvy so to be honest im not even sure what a proxy is lol.. therefore i dont believe i set it up.. my isp tech seemed to think my prob was with my os but some strange things r happening, such as: in network connections when i click on details and then click refresh on the modem it then shows me as connected but i still have no icon in the taskbar, when i bring up task manager under networking it shows me connected there.. im baffled and have no idea which way to go with this thing.. be happy to provide as many details as i can if someone thinks they may be able to help me fix this darn thing… thanks again :)
hi jamie823, looks like the proxy is for propel accelerator. some isps may use proxys. they are just servers that hold popular web pages. supposed to "speed up" your browsing by getting it to you faster. iam sure you already did this but go to start>settings>control panel> click the Network connections icon> a window will open showing connections, right click on the one thats enabled and chose properties. there should be place you can check that says: "show icon in notification area when connected"
shelf life… yes i have checked and rechecked that box but seems to make no difference… im guessing its not showing up since its showing im disconnected in network connections. obviously i cant uninstall and reinstall my isp since its the only connection i have to dial up but do u think it would help any to have them send me a disc and try it that way? .. not sure if the prob is even with my isp so dont know what to try :(
the only icon i have that would indicate a connection is the accelerator that comes with my isp and yes this is a dial up connection.. i tried to reinstall my isp software from the internet but seemed to create more probs then anything so i removed it.. will try the links u provided and see if i get anywhere that way.. will check back soon
hi jamie823, installing your isps software is not necessary to use the internet. everything can be set up manually. usually all the install cd does is make the chnages for you and "brand" your browser. iam sure you have checked and rechecked the settings plenty of times. do i have this correct: the problem is in network settings it shows you not connected, but you really are connected to the internet. there is no icon showing you connected down by the clock? shelf life
shelf life… yes that is correct: im connected but no icon by the clock and as i said in my previous post when im in network connections and i click on view and then details and hit refresh it will show me connected but still no icon… quite bizarre.. im just so frustrated by all this that it makes me more determined to figure it out lol.. if u have any advice, pass it along.. will try whatever.. thanks for your help :)
hi jamie823, its been awhile since i used a dialup connection. in the control panel click on internet options, then the connections tab, then the settings button, then under Dial-up settings, click the Properties button, down at bottom there should be a place to check: Show icon in notification area when connected. this is in windows XP, but should be similar to other windows. but iam sure you have already looked in there anyway shelf life
shelf life.. that box is already checked, thats whats so confusing.. everything is checked that should show im connected but its not.. im still leaning towards something wrong in internet connects since it says im disconnected till i hit refresh and then it shows im connected (still no connection icon tho).. dunno :(
