I would appreciate any help, since I am unable to use IE anymore now (it will install the trojan everytime, as McAfee deletes it when it catches it). Sorry for any mistakes I have made in posting this!

I have thankfully got the problem fixed, so no worries! :D I appreciate it though.

One thing has come up though. While scanning with Spybot S&D, it finds 37 registries under "Smitfraud-C." I looked it up and I guess it's a trojan? Spybot can't remove it and asks to run at my next startup, but even when i restart and it scans again, it still can't remove it (it asks to run at startup again). If you have any insight, I'd appreciate it (it's not major like my about:blank problem was). My HijackThis log is below. Thanks again for your attention!

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please right-click:HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") Save it to your desktop.
Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then name the folder Fix. Back on the desktop, Right Click on Smitfraud.zip and select Cut, open the Fix folder, Right Click and select Paste. Double Click Smitfraud.zip and extract to it there. There's more than 1 file in the zip and they need to stay together. You should see a new folder named Smitfraud. Don't run it yet.


Place a shortcut to Panda Activescan on your desktop.


Please download the trial version of ewido security suite. Install ewido security suite and start the program from the icon on your desktop, then check for and download updates. Close for now.

Reboot to safe mode and open the smitfraud folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.


Open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop

In the Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Empty Recycle bin

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda Activescan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked! Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis log and the Ewido log. Let us know if any problems persist.

Log looks good :D :thumbup: How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Unfortunately, I still have this Smitfraud popping up when I scan with Spybot. I have attached 2 screenshots from my last scan a few minutes ago to give you a better idea of what I mean. I have restarted with Spybot, but even then it still says it cannot remove them. Granted, I notice nothing out of the ordinary, so these could have been rendered useless from all the scanning and cleaning from earlier scans. Any input is appreciated! :weee:

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. When done, and post a new log.


Let me know how's running now.

I cleared about 4,000 registries (everything seems to work as it did before), but Spybot still shows the same 37 registries under Smitfraud-C. I have not noticed any differences since discovering them, and nothing was different before I found them either. Since I see their locations, is there a way to simply delete them "manually"? Or are they really just benign (not likely I guess)…My HijackThis log is below

Since I see their locations, is there a way to simply delete them "manually"?

I don't see why not. Does SpyBot give you the option do select them and remove?

Spybot says it cannot remove them because they are "in use (memory)", and asks to scan upon restarting. The same thing happens when I restart with Sypbot though. I have looked in Registry editor and see a lot of "junk" like the stuff Spybot picks up in "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2376740472-2752991226-3942243025-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\" Would deleting them in Registry Editor get rid of them, or is it like with Startpage-DU.dll where it regenerates new files unless something is completely erased? Thanks a lot for your input!

Download DelDomains.inf

Right-click and select….. Save Target As….Save

To use: Right-click and select……. Install
Reboot

**Note** This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone"

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
