Hello hydro1 and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:
  • Download and install Ewido security suite.
    • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
      • The program will prompt you to update, click the OK button.
      • The program will now go to the main screen.
    • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
      • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
      • Click on Start.
      • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the updates are installed, close the program.
  • Please download Nailfix.
    • Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
  • Run Nailfix.
    • Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd.
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.
  • Scan with Ewido.
    • Launch Ewido again.
      • Click on scanner.
      • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
        • Binder
        • Crypter
        • Archives
    • Click on Start Scan.
      • Let the program scan the machine.
      • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK.
    • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
      • Click Save report.
      • Save the report to your desktop.
  • Fix with HijackThis
    • Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check the following (if still present):

      R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll

      O2 - BHO: WinStat - {EE02B99B-1D55-48bc-B8DB-649A42CE45F6} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat12.dll

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cojifcp] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cojifcp.exe
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe

      O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw3.cab
    • Close all other programs and browsers and click Fix Checked.
  • Delete Files/Folders
    • While still in Safe mode, delete the following files/folders:

      C:\WINDOWS\System32\cojifcp.exe << File Only

      C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3 << Whole Folder
  • Restart your computer in normal mode and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
I had read another post that explained that you can use the add/remove programs to delete Surf Sidekick so that helped as well in this process. Half of my problem was already gone. Although I still had a pop up problem. I ran through your instructions. I had to do the ewido scan twice. Even though I deleted my cookies and temporary files (offline content as well) it found about 13,000 cookies in a folder called recycler. The scan had finished and I was still clicking ok to fix all of the cookies. I calculated out that it would take me about 6.5 hours to click ok to fix all of them and decided to end task because I don't have that much time at work to take care of this.

I tried to have windows search for the folder so I could delet all of the cookies in there and re-run the scan, but it was unable to find the folder (I am running both IE and Mozilla Firefox if that helps)

I ran the scan that checks the system and cookie folders and it only had a couple of issues, log is posted below, as well as the new hijack this log.

So far things are acting a more good no popups yet.

Thank you for your help.

Jack

That log looks much better.

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
Resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required either way.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Download and install CleanUp!. Here is the info page on it.
  • Click Start > All Programs > "CleanUp!" > "CleanUp!".
  • A dialog will appear. Click on the button labeled "CleanUp!".
  • Reboot.
Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.

  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Go to the following location : C:\RECYCLER
Let me know what is in that folder now.

Step 5
Scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Everything went fine with running Hijack this and Clean up. I started to worry about Clean up, I started to see file names of things I created, then realized they were temp files to speed opening the real files. The computer seems very stable now.

Before the first fix you gave me I was getting pop up windows about every three minutes and it would interupt anything I was doing. After the fix yesterday, I have not been interupted once.

The only issue that I have found so far is my Solidworks files take a little longer to open the first time, as the temp files are gone, it needs to create new ones. Not a big issue, I can live with that.

Once again, thank you for all of your help.

The following is the Hijack this log you asked me to run:

By the way I like your dog, I have one that looks very similar, in fact she is sleeping under my desk righ now.

Thanks,
Jack
I forgot to add, In the recycler folder there was only one item, it looked like the recycle bin icon. I double clicked on it and it opened Norton UnErase. Also had another quick question for you. When I right click on the recycle bin and choose empty Norton protected files, it tells me that I have about 1300 protected files. If I choose to purge them, is it only deleting files that have been placed in the recycle bin anyways. Or does it delete anything that I may have/need on my hard drive. Thanks
Here is a link to read about Norton UnErase and its uses : http://www.circa.ufl.edu/handouts/micro/ma…n/norton.html#4
I would empty the Norton Protected files from the Recycle bin.

Your new log appears clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
