Use the v1.99.1 version please.
Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.


"copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

And, as for what the pc does, it seems to be running slower all the time, and sometime locks up, especially during gameplay, then there is no way to do anyting unless I hardboot the pc.

A "tech" friend of mine says that I should remove Backweb, but I'm pretty sure that Compaq actually uses this, so I'm not sure about that either.

  • Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and install.
  • Open CCleaner.
  • Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
  • Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
  • Hit the button that says Run CCleaner
  • Reboot to remove index.dat files.
Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

ok, did all that. The computer is QUICK now. Seems so much better!

I'll keep an eye on it for a week or so, and let ya know if anything changes…

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"


Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
