Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. I am sorry about the wait, we are very busy. The first thing I must point out is that you are running an obsolete version of HijackThis. Update like this: To update HJT, open the program, then click on Config to the right. Then on the top line, choose Misc Tools.
On the left column choose "Check for update online". Follow the instructions. If you have issues with this old version then use this link: http://www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html to download version 1.99.1. Save it to the same folder and it will replace the old version for you.

If you are not receiving help elsewhere, then follow these directions in the posted order:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) You would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

3) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 4) Run CCleaner but do not use the registry cleaner unless you backup the registry first as prompted. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT (V1.99.1) log along with the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running. We will have more to do.

    Thanks…pskelley

    PURGE SYSTEM RESTORE
When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed follow these instructions:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam
OK,
I downloaded the newest hijackthis software.
I downloaded and ran a new version of spybot. It found a lot of problem
I did a full system scan with the newest ad-aware version
I downloaded, installed and ran Ewido per your instructions
I downloaded and ran cccleaner per your instructions.
Here is the edwido log followed by the hijack log ..

I also have 5 users on the computer. Do go through this process for each user?

Thanks very much

FYI - I am running spybot, ad-aware, ccleaner, and ewido on each user. I'm currently still getting alot of pop ups on the current user I'm on thanks
Hello bluerapalam, Let me comment on your response after I give you a few details. It would have been good to know about five users prior to starting the fix, but as long as I am dealing with the main user's account, we will attempt to clean it up and consider if we want to look at the HJT logs of indivual users a little later. Let me say that if you have looked at the Ewido log you should know that this computer is/was severely infected and the one that worries me most is the evidence of Look2Me which can be very difficult to remove. If Ewido removed it for us we are very lucky. We will know when all other malware has been removed, if we have no additional symptoms. I see at least one item that had an error in cleaning, I will want you to run this scan again in safe mode. I also see a lot of junk in System Restore files so we will turn it off and then back on to clean the junk from the SR files. This is going to take a while to finish and if we run into Look2Me could take much longer. I am going to suggest you keep the computer offline as much as possible and limit access to it as much as possible until we are finished with this cleanup.

Here is how we will start:

1) I need to know this is safe: C:\Updater.exe. Navigate to the item and right click to check properties. It must have to do with: iRiver Music Manager If not, submit the file here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and let me know the results.

2) Look in Add Remove programs and uninstall this item: C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe (Adware.CasinoClient)
While you are there, look hard at the programs and uninstall anything you know should not be there.

3) Follow these instructions to clean out the System Restore files:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam
Here it is manually, make sure you reboot and start it right back up. We must have System Restore running in the event of a problem:
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

4) Now I would like you to go to Safe Mode, here are instructions:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html Once in Safe Mode:

5) Run another Edido scan using the same instructions as before. You may want to print these instructions as you will not be able to see them in Safe Mode.

6) While still in Safe Mode: Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Cas\ >>> folder

C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll >>> File

C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSof1.exe >>> file

c:\windows\system32\bmnbcce.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\NRTMSG.DLL >>> file

Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contents of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. You may not be able to remove them all, don't be concerned unless any have the name of the items we need to remove. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you:
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

Run CCleaner again, then restart the computer back to normal mode. Post a new HJT log along with the log from the Ewido scan. Include any feedback you think I should have. Once you have posted, then surf a bit and watch for any signs of problems. Once again, I encourage you to keep the computer offline after that as much as possible.

Thanks…pskelley

no real pop ups at the moment for this user
thanks so much for you dedication and help
Hello, Thanks for the feedback, I have feeling Ewido would find more junk in safe mode. This item: C:\WINDOWS\system32\NRTMSG.DLL is bad and I am fairly sure it is a marker for the Look2Me infection and it will cause you problems until we remove it. It usually causes popups that can't be stopped so keep an eye out for signs of issues.

This item: O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing) is a Trojan see this:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas…ibrary/svcproc/

Do this: Disable the offending Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc.
Scroll down to System Startup Service (SvcProc) and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the offending Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type SvcProc and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

This item: O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\NRTMSG.DLL Navigate to it (will have to enable hidden files) right click on it and choose properties. Post any information there to help identify it.

Download DLLCompare at : http://downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe
Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
Copy and paste the entire log into this topic.
If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt to where you saved DllCompare.exe.
Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.

I am almost positive this is a problem, and if I am right we will need to address it before looking at other user logs. How is the computer running?
Post a new log with this information. Thanks…Phil
I will get back to the PC when I get home from work. Thanks much. I used IE some this morning and it seemed better. I still can't figure out how we can delete NRTMSG.DLL if something is using it? Thanks again
I deleted the nt service

C:\WINDOWS\system32\NRTMSG.DLL – this file was gone ! I had view hidden files enabled

We have not noticed any problem with this user but have not been online very much

Thanks again
The DllCompare log showed only valid files. This item, the trojan responsible for the Look2Me infection has the ability to morph and does this when a reboot occurs. The current item has a missing file:
O20 - Winlogon Notify: SideBySide - C:\WINDOWS\system32\CJDRMUI.dll (file missing)
I am not sure what that means, what I would like you to do is use HJT and try to remove the line to see what happens. If the item morphs and is put back with a different name, them we will run additional tests to flush it out. Continue to watch for any issues.

Let's try this Symantec tool to see if it will kill the infection, review the instructions here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen…re.look2me.html
then download and run the tool here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSpL2Me.exe

Then do this:
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: SideBySide - C:\WINDOWS\system32\CJDRMUI.dll (file missing)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Thanks…Phil
symantec did not fine anything (Look2Me) -
