enjoy! :)
Hello Aulpa, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. You have a bit of a mess here and also a dose of LOP complements of the nice folks at MessengerPlus!! (nothing to do with Microsoft or MSNIM) see this:
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2034.html
If you are not receiving help elsewhere, then please follow these directions in the posted order:

Thanks to Elrond for this fix:
1) You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on "Messenger Plus!" (or click on Remove)

2. The "Messenger Plus! - Setup" is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer "Yes" to this question, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, restart your computer and, hopefully voila one nasty infection is gone.

********************************************************************
please keep a record af anything located by any of these scans that could not be remove and post the exact name and location of this item/items
2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) You have several bad infections and you would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

3) Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/
If the scan locates anything follow the instructions to use a2 to remove it.

4) Run at least one of these free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything located.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

5) Run CCleaner then restart the computer. Post a new HJT log in this same thread. Include your feedback and any information from the scans I should have. We will have more to do.

Thanks…pskelley

hey pskelly,

I've done everything on the list that you've asked me to do and gotten rid of a lot of things on my father's computer.

The only really strange thing is that everytime I used a different scanner (adware, malware, online trojan, etc.) My father's Trend Micro PC-cillin INternet Security would come up with a message about the same 5 or 6 files.

C:\_restore\temp\A0161015.cpy ADW. websearch.e
C:\_restore\temp\A0161014.cpy ADW. webserch.b
C:\_restore\temp\A0161012.cpy ADW. LOP.J
C:\_restore\temp\A0161016.cpy ADW. webserch.b
C:\_restore\temp\A0159653.cpy
C:\_restore\temp\A0162059.cpy ADW. HOTBAR.H

Always these files but none of the scanners picked them up only the firewall/anti-virus already on the system.

anyways here's the new log file:

Hello Aulpa, I must apologize :( The notification system that is supposed to let me know when you post in your thread has failed us again. I found your post during a routine cleaning of topic to close finished ones. Taking a look at your log right now, if you still need to have this issue resolved just respond to this notification (if you get one)

OK, we still have some bad stuff to remove then I will address the questions above.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
next two are missing files and not working correctly

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Restart the computer and post a new hijackThis log for a final look.

The files you asked about above are in the System Restore files and we need to get rid of them as they will get back on the computer if you use SR for a valid reason. Follow the instructions in the link to do this:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam

Just to be sure, update your Trend Micro and run a new system scan. Let me know how it turns out. I've got some information to help you stay clean and safe after I see this last log.

Please apologize to your father for the notification failure also. Thanks.

Thanks…Phil
pskelley,

All i have to say is … Meh. LOL. It doesn't bother me about you not getting the message till last minute at least you got it. Thank-you for the apology though. As for my father, he doesn't know that i've been doing all this clean-up on his system. He happens to think b/c he bought PC-cillin his computer is Fort Knox or something. LOL. :P so i'm doing what i can to clean it up while i am here without him knowning it. He doesn't even know the programs are on the computer if they're not in the "start" menu. LOL.

But anyway here is the log file. I downloaded limewire 4.8.1 the other day so if there are things refering to that just ignore them. :D
