Hello witsend,

I suggest you do this:

Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Do Not run the program unless you loose your internet connection during the fix.

Important: Do this before any fix.

You need to update your version of HijackThis. Open HJT> Open Misc Tools> Pull the side bar down> Check for update online. If that doesn't work, download it from my signature and remove the hijackThis.exe you have now.

Also please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

After the above:

Download SpSeHjfix for XP/2000 from here:
http://www.trojaner-info.de/cgi-bin/downlo…gi?file=sphjfix

Download and install http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.php

Reboot into safe mode. To do this, press the F8 key repeatedly as the computer starts up until you see a menu screen (if Windows starts normally, restart it again). Use the arrow keys to highlight "Safe Mode" and press Enter.

Run Ccleaner.

In safe mode doubleclick SpSeHjfix.exe and click " Start Disinfection", than the tool will restart the computer.
Please post the SpSeHjfix logfile and a HijackThis log to check.
Hi LDTate
hanks for your interest. Windows explorer keeps crashing every ten seconds and I can't get a log from SpSEHjfix. Here's the current HJT Log:

After this then try my first post. Not sure how well the below will work, but maybe good enough to keep you online.

I suggest you do this:

Please disable SpySweeper: Untill we are done.

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inet20057\services.exe

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.line6.net
O20 - Winlogon Notify: style2 - C:\WINDOWS\q1754140_disk.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these folders if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\inet20057

Search for and delete these files if listed:
C:\WINDOWS\q1754140_disk.dll

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Ok. that was difficult. My system just kept crashing, even in safe mode it wouldn't respond. I had to keep going back and trying again and again. eventually I got this far. here's the hjt and btw, thanks for your help so far.
