Thanks for any help!! :-)
Hi jacqueee.

First of all, read through the whole post. Be sure that you understand the instructions. If you have any questions please ask them before you start doing the fixes. You may want to print out this post so that you have a hard copy of these instructions.

  • Download Mosiac's track qoo to your desktop, extract the file inside to the desktop. Do not run it yet.

  • Download WinPFind.zip and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder. Do not run it yet.

  • Download Ewido, install then from within the program check for updates BUT dont scan yet
    ewido security suite: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/ewido…te/1098736486/1
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
We will fix this in a moment.
From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), Now close the program.
Do NOT run a scan yet.

Notes: If you already have the program please make sure its version 3.5 you have and updated.
If the program just exits before it finishes start it again and set it up to do a custom scan:
Start the program click the scan button over to the left click custom scan, click add drive/directory/file
    and add c:\documents and settings\
    add c:\windows\
add c:\windows\system32\ also, then click start scan, have it remove everything found.

  • Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

  • While in "Safe Mode" start Ewido, click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the "Start" button or "Complete System Scan". This scan can take quite a while to run.
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to you next reply.
  • Reboot in 'Normal Mode"

  • Double left click Track qoo 1.vbs (This script is by Mosiac1) , a text will open. Please post it in your reply.

  • Find c:\WinPFind. Inside it there is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

When it is done, it will show the results of the scan. Click on the Copy to Clipboard button and then paste the contents of the log in your clipboard in your reply to me.

Note: It is important to note that not all files found with this program are necessarily bad. Please use extreme caution when deleting these files as it may cause problems with applications running on your machine. As always if you unsure, ask for help.

  • Run a new HijackThis scan the log together with logs from Ewido, Track qoo 1 and WinPFind.

E :)
Thank you!!
WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "not responding" you can ignore it. Windows is throwing this message up even though the program is still running. As long as the hard disk is working then the program is running.

Hi jacqueee.

The way you sort of telescoped the logs together made it a little bit difficult to read them. :( In the future please leave two empty lines between the logs. It makes it even easier if you mark which log is which. However that is a minor point.

Did you run Ewido the last time. I did not see alog from Ewido among the information you sent me. I am asking because there is more malware showing now than there was before including some that Ewido should take care of. :rant2:

I would like you to run Ewido again and follow the following instructions. Let's see if that has a positive effect. Sometimes one have to run Ewido a number of times before it has had the effect we want.

Please print out the following instructions as this page will be unavailable to you while you are working in Safe Mode, and you should have all windows and folders closed as well.

This is the best way to set ewido up so that it works correctly without giving problems…

Download and install ewido Security Suite:

Please download ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu."
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big "E" icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update; click the "OK" button
  • The program will now go to the main screen

    Update ewido:

You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. After the updates are installed, exit ewido.

    IMPORTANT!:

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run ewido.
  • Close all open windows/programs/folders. Have nothing else open while ewido performs its scan!

    Scan with ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Settings
    • Under "How to scan" all boxes should be selected
    • Under "Possibly unwanted software" all boxes should be selected
    • Under "What to scan" select scan every file
    • Click OK
  • Click on Complete system scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. NOTE: We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so you need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, AOL, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged. In particular, watch for alerts that have the word "Heuristic" in them - if you recognize the file name as "friendly," these may actually be false positives) select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections." If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. The Helper assisting you will see it in the log that you will post later and they will let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

    Save and Post Your Report:

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
  • Exit ewido
Reboot back into normal mode

When you are ready to post your next reply double click on the saved report to open it, then use Ctrl + A to select all text, then Ctrl + C to copy the selected text to your clipboard. Next, open a new reply to your active topic, and use Ctrl + V to paste the copied text of the ewido log from your clipboard into your reply.

* Open notepad and copy and paste the content of the following code box:

dir %Windir%\tasks /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save this as findjobs.bat , choose to save it as "file type" all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on op findjobs.bat and post the content of the txtfile you get in your next reply

Now please run a new HijackThis scan and post the log together with the Ewido log and findjobs.bat log. It should be three logs.

E :)
Please forgive me for causing problems for you! I really am very new at this and have to keep looking up definitions and 'how to's'! I know this was run incorrectly..I realized that after I saw the 'corrected' results! Anyway, here is what I have from the scan……

:( I hope something can be salvaged…I'm really trying to learn fast but when you are teaching yourself, your teacher lacks critical information :-(
Hi jacqueee

You are doing very well. I see why you had problems with Findjobs.log. Will give you clearer instructions.

If you have any questions about anything in my instructions please ask. It is not simple and I am happy to help you if I can.

If you are unsure of How to Copy, Cut, and Paste you will find instructions HERE

Now let us get on with getting your computer clean. This step is not going to clean up anything but will prepare for the next round.

  • Find LOP
    • Download Findlop by Metallica. Unzip it to your desktop.

      • How to unzip a downloaded zip file.
      • Place the zip file in the folder where you want the unzipped program to be.
      • If you are running Windows XP you simply right click the zip file and select "Extract Files".
    • Double click findlop.bat. It will open a notepad file.
    • Copy the content of that file and past it here in your reply.

  • You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
I hope everything is clear. It will take a few more rounds to get this collection of slyware cleared up but do not give up hope.

E :)

Hi jacqueee

These infections are not giving up easily but do not give up. Hopefully we will get rid of them.

Got what I needed to prepare getting rid of one of them. Found the trigger that reinstalls it when you delete it.

Now let us continue.

  • Copy the text in the box below. Highlight it and click Ctrl+C.

    %systemdrive%
    cd %WinDir%\Tasks
    attrib -r -s -h 8026254496C5D9B4.job
    del 8026254496C5D9B4.job

  • Open Notepad and copy the text to it by clicking Ctrl+V

Save the file with the name remjobs.bat, set the "File Type" to ALL FILES and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on remjobs.bat. A DOS window will open and close again, this is normal.

Afterwards, doubleclick on Findlop.bat again and paste the content of the txtfile you get in your next reply.

  • To try to correct the problem that gave rise to the error messages please open the l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #5 for Fix Autoexec.nt/cmd.exe error by typing 5 and then pressing enter. you will be sent to a website that has C:windows\system32\autoexec.nt Fix in large letters. A bit below it there are choises of Operating Systems with links to replace the files needed. Choose the correct version of Windows XP for your computer and run it.

  • Now let us see if we can get that l2mfix log that I need. Rerun the option #1 for Run find log. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

  • Copy the contents of l2mfix log and paste it into this thread together with the log from the latest Findlop scan.

E :)

Exactly what I needed.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Note : Once the pc has restarted if a log does not appear or the icons didn't dissappear, run the "second.bat" located inside the L2mfix folder.

Now run a new HijackThis scan and post that log together with log from L2Mfix in this thread.

OK jacquee
That seems to have taken out that infection. However it also looks as if it did some damage to the system on your computer. To repair it please
We need to run one more L2Mfix option. Please follow the steps below…

  • Disable WinPatrol. (It will otherwise try to block our fixes.)
    - Right Click the 'Scotty Dog' icon in the system tray
    - Click Always Run Winpatrol
    - When WinPatrol dialog comes up asking about Startup change, click Yes
    - Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect before running HJT.

To Re-enable WinPatrol after your malware removal is complete:(It is important that it runs under normal circumstances. It does a good job of protecting you.)
    - Click Start, Programs, All Programs, WinPatrol, WinPatrol
    - Click Startup Info Tab
    - Click Add
    - When dialog comes up, locate Winpatrol.exe, usually in C:\Program Files\BillP Studios\Winpatrol
    - Click OK

  • Download Killbox.zip here
    • Extract it from the zip file.

    1) Run QuickTime from the Start -> Programs menu

    3) Select QuickTime Preferences from the right-hand side menu

    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

If you have problems booting into Safe Mode and need additional help, see the following site:

Sorry for the delay! This one was more difficult! When I tried to delete
C:\Windows\Systems32\mvnol9~1.dll and C:\Windows\System32\t0r80a~1.dll, I received this message….Pending file rename operations registry data has been removed by external process!

When I tried to download http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip ……I received the message…Internet Explorer was unable to open this internet file. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

Here is the latest log!! Thank you!! :(
