Hi

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out.

Basically, I run NAV 2002, S&D + Adaware but I'm convinced that something is not quite right with my PC despite using these tools all the time. Please help me out if you can.

Hello Mr Jo, Welcome to TomCoyote forum :) if you still need help, please do this:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) You have Ad-aware and Spybot but are the the newest versions, updated and configured properly. Spybot should be 1.4, and Ad-aware 1.6. Use the following link to check this, update and configure. Then run them again, once you are clean, I suggest you consider activating Spybot TeaTimer for some realtime protection. http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you do not know this next item, check and remove it)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.line6.net

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

4) Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new HJT log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Here is some information about Spybot and TeaTimer: http://antivirus.about.com/od/securitytips/ss/hosts_6.htm Once you are clean, I will suggest a couple of additional freeware programs to help you stay safe.

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks pskelley
Things seem to be running smoothly at the moment. Here is the HJT log as per your instructions.
Assuming that this now looks OK, I'd be glad to see your suggestions for further freeware programs to help keep me clean.
Thanks again
Mr Jo

Oops Mr Jo :o You missed one:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…arch.yahoo.com/

Please use the same instructions as before to remove that line. You will probably need to turn the TeaTimer off until you remove it:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm
Once that line is removed you should be good to go. I see Norton Internet Security and even though it is a big resource hog, if you maintain it that should take care of your antivirus and firewall needs.
With Ad-aware and Spybot onboard and TeaTimer running I will suggest two more programs that will give you more protection and require few resources. Before you move ahead with my suggestions, please review the information in these links first. Windows 98 is a good Operating System but it just does not handle resources as well as Xp. I suggest you keep your maintenance proceedures up to date, and install as much RAM as you can on the system. Here are those VIP links:
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

And here are the two I would consider and you will have read about them both above. I am including tutorials for use also:

SpywareBlaster
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
IE-Spyad
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial53.html

If you can get that one line of adware out of your log, then there is no reason to post again unless you with to. Safe Surfing to you…Phil
