OKay….I will never visit another clip art site for "free" downloads. My computer has been brought to its knees for the second time in six months. I have run AdAware, SpyBot, and the Microsoft Anti Spyware beta. All are current. I have the Google popup blocker running. But, alas, the windows multiply faster than rabbits.

Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

The above Registry file was written specifically for this infection and is not to be used on any other infection as it could damage a person's PC

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

Also, when I launched the browser to read your post, Microsoft Antispyware intercepted the AFA Internet Enhancement malware. I did a fullscan and it found the Navidad Worm, SearchMiracle.EliteBar, Unclassified Spyware, and the AFA Internet Enhancement. These were all removed or quarantined. One other observation, I get a pop up error "Shell.Notify Icon Fail" occasionally.

Thanks for your help.

As an added FYI. I have taken this computer offline and replaced it with a backup. My wife has a final project due for an online class tonight so we needed to have clean access to the internet. I will respond to your postings as quickly as possible though there may be a delay depending upon the status of her project.

Download the FindQoologic-Narrator.zip and save it to your Desktop.

1. Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
2. Open the FindQoologic folder.
3. Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic2.bat to run it.

* The tool will open a DOS window and begin to check your system.
When it is finished a text file will open in Notepad called "file.txt".
* Save this text file in the FindQoologic folder.
* Close the DOS box If on win 98 or me.

4. Open the file you saved and copy / paste its content to this thread (as a reply).

Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINNT\System32\RKIUNIN.DLL
C:\WINNT\System32\PUKVW.DAT
C:\WINNT\System32\RAPMHP.EXE
C:\WINNT\System32\BAMODMD.EXE
C:\WINNT\System32\REDIT.CPL
C:\docume~1\alluse~1\startm~1\programs\startup\NAIT.EXE

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

When rebooted make a new Findqoologic log and post it here :)

As additional information, popups appeared last evening when I was trying to get to the forum. Nothing too severe but they were present. Also, last night and this morning I have lost control of my mouse while attempting to get to this site. Both times it moves erratically and selects things randomly. This last for about ten seconds. Is this an electronic issue, i.e., bad connection, or a software issue?

Hi,

Go to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and uninstall AFA Internet Enhancement.

1. Run HijackThis (“Do a system scan only”). Put a checkmark near these lines:

3. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

4. Delete, in safe mode:

You will notice that the AFA Internet Enhancement is still present. I have deleted it twice already. In addition, the Microsoft Antispyware intercepted it on reboot twice. I did a system scan with the Microsoft Antispyware after deleting it and it found both AFA Internet Enhancement and the Navidad Worm. It gave me the option of deleting the AFA garbage and quarantining the Navidad Worm. I chose the default the first time. Then, when it came up the second time, I went into the quarantine area and removed everything. However, the AFA is still there.

Also, I did not see the AFA Enhancement using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. I did not find the Ebates file nor could I find the rapmhp.exe file.

I am back from my travels now and will look for your next set of instructions.

Hi Mike, Reboot into safe mode, and do the steps again (See if AFA IH is present, if so uninstall it, then remove the files, boot in normal mode and post a new log). Make sure MSAS (MS AntiSpyware) is not running. This might cause the fix to fail :)

Okay…It took a few tries and I unistalled MSAS to be sure it was not interfering (I'll reinstall after this mess is gone.)

Hi,

Could you check if this file is on your system:
C:\WINNT\system\sbeftljphk.exe

If so, delete it. If not, everything is OK now :)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!
