Just recently AVG discovered a Trojan Horse in 3 named files and put them in the vault. They are: Droper.Agent.6.BU, Dowloader.Small.41.5 and Dropper.Small.24C. I am unsure what to do now since the files are called BackUp Copy and state that they are infected. I noticed a lot of registry keys were affected. I have run, in this order, CWShredder, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and AVG. I have rebooted numerous times and definitely before posting this log. Thank you.

Hello kckazoo, Welcome to TomCoyote forum and sorry for the wait, we are extremely busy. Since it has been a week, it would be better
if I can look at a new HJT log, but first you need to fix the location of HJT.exe. You should receive this message:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif as an indication something is wrong. Please use the instruction in the following link to properly place HJT where it can safely store backups if needed. Thanks.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

It looks to me that your are running two antivirus programs? If this is the case please choose one of them and either uninstall the other or turn it off so it can not run. Conflicts caused by competing AV programs will make you considerably less safe than if you run one good program and maintain it properly. Please do this before you post the new log so I can concentrate on the bad stuff on your computer. Thanks.

I am interested in this item: Leopard Search Toolbar, did you install this on your computer?

Looks to me that you are using MSN as your home page, I would like to clean out all of the HP redirects that look like this:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t…lion&pf=desktop
If you click on the link you can see it send you, this will unclutter your browser a little.

Put HJT.exe safely in it's own folder, give me the information I asked for and post a new HJT log and I will look at it as soon as possible.

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks…your HJT folder is perfect :)

I turned off Norton AV but I also have a Firewall by Norton running, is that ok

I have no way of knowing if this is true, all of the Symantec showing in running process makes it difficult to know if if Norton/Symantec antivirus software has been turned off. It may be better for you to uninstall the free AVG? You can always download it again free if you ever need it, since you pay for Norton/Symantic? I will leave this up to you, but I can assure you that you will have problems if both are running at once, and those conflictions can allow viruses/trojans to get past your protection.

Please follow these instructions, we are going to take a deep look with a good scan, then remove some junk with HJT and then do a good cleaning and see where we are:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing. Wait until I tell you to run this, then use the default settings.

2) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

above item won't let me view it, leave it if you know it is safe
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    4) RIGHT click on Start, then click on Explore, Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contents of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you.

    5) Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Once you have posted those logs, you should use this link to make sure you have the newest versions of Ad-aware 1.06 and Spybot 1.04 and that you are updated and configured as suggested in the link. http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

Thank you for your in depth research and suggestions, as it is late I will start on this tomorrow AM and get back asap. I have not paid for Norton AV and therefore it is not up to date (it came with the computer). Some time ago Norton sent me information on uninstalling it and it is quite a process - I will have to think about which way to go with this one.
You are welcome, and take your time with those instructions, it is nothing to be rushed. If questions come up, post them. I will get back with you as soon as possible.
Now the Norton/Symantec issue is another story. Symantec creates these hugh programs that no one understands, even their own technicians. They permeate the whole system and are very hard to remove. If you decide this is the way you want to go, though it be complex, I will do my best to help you remove Symantec/Norton from your computer. I can tell you this about AVG. It is a good antivirus program but for the price you get no tech support. If you go that way you will want this link: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/index.php?0 where you can get free help from your peers if you need it.

Thanks…pskelley

I'm back but only partially done————– I downloaded, installed both CCleaner and Ewido——- The problem is with Ewido, when I try to update (twice) it gets to 80%+ and stops, at the bottom of the page it says "connection timeout 1208s. My connection never failed/stopped or kicked me off line so now I am unsure as to what to do in terms of getting Ewido updated. Thanks again.
Wow, that was quick - such a nice day we should be out surfin Yes, it is dial up but I've not had disconnect problems with this computer like I've had with the other which was dial up too but also had a section to deal with time out/idle parameters. I will go ahead and do the Ewido scan now, etc Thanks
 I must be missing something here. I clicked the scan button and a screen came up with a search list that had HP Pavilion (C:\) HP Recovery (D:\) HP Pavilion (C:\) on it. There are 3 button below and not sure what to do with them, they are: +Everything, +Disk/Directory/File and Remove The Start and Stop buttons are greyed out along with Scan Memory If I click Start nothing happens :( help, when you have the time, thanks. Also, there are three boxes checked: Binder, Archives and Crypter
If you are talking about the Ewido scan, here are the directions, take your time and follow them exactly, Unfortunately all I can do from this end is provide the information and maybe a little moral support. :P

Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
I'm back and have successfully completed everything - at least my computer boots up and I can get on the internet just as before. Here are the scans you requested. Many thanks.

PS I could not find 04-HKLM\..RUN:[cfgmgr52]……, and I left 03 Toolbar: HP view and 016 - DPF for now
OK, Good job so far  you are doing great. Looks like you decided to keep the Symantec/Norton so you have only one antivirus software running now and that is a good thing. You must make sure to keep it updated and set it to do that for you automatically if it will, also set it to run a scan for you automatically also every few days.

It's my fault :( I forgot to include this one: O3 - Toolbar: Leopard Search Toolbar - {E828EC21-EAA9-44B3-8021-EE89101C6ACD} - C:\Program Files\Leopard Search Toolbar\leopardsearch.dll (file missing) It should remove very easily.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O3 - Toolbar: Leopard Search Toolbar - {E828EC21-EAA9-44B3-8021-EE89101C6ACD} - C:\Program Files\Leopard Search Toolbar\leopardsearch.dll (file missing) It should remove very easily.

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Your HijackThis log is clean Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

What I would like for you to do is look at that information so you can get some programs (that are free) on your computer to protect you from spyware. Put a notepad near the computer and after you remove the line I missed run your computer for a day or two and mark down any question you have about the performance. Then post your questions and tell me about how the computer is performing. Post a new log along with the information and we will see how you are doing.

Thanks…Phil
