I think if you go here, you'll notice alot of users having issues with the latest SpyBot. Make sure you are staying up with the updates for it.

No, neither one of them will run in safe mode. Also, I have tried installing Spybot 1.3 and it behaves exactly the same.
Thanks,
Glen

Haven't had that happen before.

Do this so you can see hidden files and folders - click http://www.eudaemoni...es/xphidden.zip to download xphidden.zip. Extract xphidden.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double-click the xphidden.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

Then do a virus scan here >>> Micro World http://www.mwti.net/...e_utilities.asp

To run the virus scan make sure you click the following

memory, registry, startup folders, system folders, services, drive (all drives will be added). It will not clean anything but will create a log in the lower box of the scanner. Please copy and paste that log here.

This log is huge... I tried to break it apart into 1/3s, but it still didn't like it. I am adding it as a zipped attachment.

Attached Files

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Then download this program.

http://downloads.sub.../DllCompare.exe

Open the program and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes)
When it finishes click the "Make Log...." button.

Post the dll compare log to this thread.

That long sacn you did said if found 26 virus', lets see if this one will clean them.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Let it clean everything it finds.Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Lets try this:

To use it:
  • Download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/ and install.
  • Open CCleaner.
  • Place a check by everything in the Applications tab.
  • Place a check by Internet Explorer, Windows explorer, and System in the Windows tab.
  • Hit the button that says Run CCleaner
  • Reboot to remove index.dat files.

1.Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".

2.if user is running Firefox: ,then click on the "Applications" tab and uncheck "Cookies" under "Firefox".

3.Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.

How do I restore registry backups?

Right-click on the .REG file created and select 'Merge'.
By default these files will be saved into your 'My Documents' folder

well... that didn't work either. Thanks for all of your efforts. I am not sure that the ability to run spybot is worth reimaging this computer. I may play around with removing and reinstalling again, both with spybot and ad-aware. Is there another decent freeware spyware removal tool that you can recommend for regular use?
Thanks,
Glen

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
