Hello Keegan, :) Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I do see a lot of malware that needs to go and I would like to run some tools first. Follow these directions if you want help. Let me know the exact name and location of anything any of the scans locates and can't remove.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) You have several bad infections and you would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

3) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 4) Run at least one of these free online scans, allow ActiveX if reqested as the scan can't run without it:
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

    5) Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log along with the Ewido scan log in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

    Thanks…pskelley

Thanks a lot for helping me out! By the way, I figured I should mention that even after all of that, every time I start up the computer, Internet Explorer will open a window to an ad. Anyways, here are the two logs you wanted: first Hijack, then Ewido.

Hi Keegan,

Thanks a lot for helping me out! By the way, I figured I should mention that even after all of that, every time I start up the computer, Internet Explorer will open a window to an ad.

You are certainly welcome, and your thanks is what I work for :) Thanks also for your feedback, how did you like the way CCleaner worked? Great little utility and even has a free forum where you can ask questions if you have them. The scans will only do so much, but if you look close a the two logs, you will be surprised as to how much was removed. We will do the balance manually using HJT.

1) Open Task Manager then the Processes tab. Locate and end process on: C:\if.exe
This is a nasty one and you should review this information in case it made changes you need to reverse and to help you know how to avoid it in the future.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/[removed]

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {D9B45197-B206-466C-96CE-CBA51823DE90} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinUpd] C:\if.exe
Added by the BEAGLE.M or BEAGLE.N WORMS!
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
(above restriction, if you did not set it you may check and remove it)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\if.exe >>> file

Since you just ran CCleaner, then empty the recycle bin and restart your computer. You need to get a few programs in place to stop spyware and I will give you some information about this in the all clean message, but for now I suggest you activate TeaTimer for some realtime protection: http://www.voiceofthepublic.com/SSD/SI/teatimer.swf.html

I see no antivirus software running in this log, with the junk out here now you must have that protection. Here are two free one and I suggest AVG by Grisoft. I would download, update and run it right away.
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

I should also suggest you have the WindowsXp SP2 firewall enabled, and be running autoupdates in your Security Panel. If I am missing something about the AV let me know as WinXpSP2 should be sending you constant notifications about not having an AV?

Post a new log for a final look with your feedback. Thanks…Phil

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks once again! My computer's gone from completely glitchy and twitchy to its' decent fast self again! You spared me from much insanity, so thanks.
