I have a serious PopUp problem which first surfaced with my upgrade to XP. Unfortunately I installed SP1 and it occurred between initial install and my upgrade to SP2. There are several insistant popups, the most notable is Empnads, but also Filost, Ads1, PartyPoker and a few others. In addition I was infected with the Elite Tool/Side Bar. I have not been able to delete Elite but have been able to disable both Elite Bar and Elite SideBar from the Tools/Manage AddOns in the IE Tools menu. I am running both Symantec AV9 and AdAware, but as with so many other posts they are innefective in correcting this Malware epidemic.

I am attaching my HijackThis log below:

Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

The above Registry file was written specifically for this infection and is not to be used on any other infection as it could damage a person's PC

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Hans,
Thanks very much for your reply and help.

I have run the bat file as you directed and below is my new log file.
It seems to be somewhat better at this point but there are still popups from filost, exitexchange, oldgames and a few others.
Please let me know what if anything I will need to do next to get this malware cleaned out completely.
Thanks again,
Steve

If running Windows XP Pro: run this tool http://homepage.ntlworld.com/spencer.greys…/XPProfiles.exe

If running Windows XP Home: run this tool http://homepage.ntlworld.com/spencer.greys…XPHomeFiles.exe

(Running the tool is just extracting the files to the already specified location and closing the tool)

Reboot.

Download the FindQoologic-Narrator.zip and save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph…=post&id=134981

The above files written by O_E were written specifically for this infection and is not to be used on any other infection as it could damage a person's PC

1. Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
2. Open the FindQoologic folder.
3. Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic2.bat to run it.

* The tool will open a DOS window and begin to check your system.
When it is finished a text file will open in Notepad called "file.txt".
* Save this text file in the FindQoologic folder.
* Close the DOS box If on win 98 or me.

4. Open the file you saved and copy / paste its content to this thread (as a reply).

Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\NZUUNV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DMOOD.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\OADDOBO.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\REDIT.CPL

C:\docume~1\alluse~1\startm~1\programs\startup\TARR.EXE

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your system must reboot now.

Open notepad and copy and paste next content in the field in it:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\qymmqfqf]

The above Registry file was written specifically for this infection on this person's computer. It is NOT to be used on another computer, as it may cause damage that could result in a format.

Save this as Qfix.reg choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok

Post a new findqoologic-log in your next reply.
Hans, Performed all steps. Here is the latest FindQoologic log file. It certainly seems to be a lot cleaner. From other research that I have done on Malware prior to posting on TomCoyote, it would seems that this stuff backs itself up in temp files and reinfects the computer. Let me know my next steps. Hans, Ran all 3 steps. Here is the result of the scan. It seems to have found a number of things in this dll but I am a little confused about what I am seeing. Thanks. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, I cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service. Also, I am aware of the implications of a setup like this. I am sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). I am aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. I do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail me about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita. Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware. Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 15Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample. Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. This service costs me money. Hi,

1. Run HijackThis (“Do a system scan only”). Put a checkmark near these lines:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nzuunv.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyPopupKiller] C:\DOCUME~1\STEVEJ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\mpk.exe

O16 - DPF: {24311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab

O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34545} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll
O23 - Service: Network Security Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\apiir32.exe (file missing)

2. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

3. Reboot into safe mode by tapping F8 frequently during bootup.
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

4. Delete, in safe mode:
Files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nzuunv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll
C:\WINDOWS\apiir32.exe

5. Reboot into normal mode, make a new HijackThis log, and post it here :)
Hans, Fixed the files you listed in HijackThis. Deleted vbsys2.dll from safe mode in System32 but apiir32.exe did not exist anywhere on my system. I was able to find nzuunv.exe not in system32 directory but residing in directory C:\!Submit along with these other suspicious files: DMOOD.DLL GXOOGZG.DLL NZUUNV.EXE OADDOBO.EXE REDIT.CPL THIN-9~1.EXE Did not run HijackThis for this reply. Would you like to see this log now or should I do something else first to get rid of one or more of these other files first. Please advise. Thanks.
