Hello. I'm a computer virgin I'm afraid, but this virginity is being compromised by the horrible pop-ups I get from a crowd called zippapromos. Scarey stuff. I include my HijackThis log below in the hope that someone out there might be able to help me. I really would appreciate it.
The best,
Liffey

We are sorry for the delay in replying to you.

If you still require help, Move HijackThis to Permanent Folder:
HijackThis needs to be unzipped into a permanent folder in order to save backups just in case something goes wrong.
  • Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:.
  • Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT.
  • Extract HijackThis from the zipped file into this new folder.
Please post a fresh Hijackthis log as a reply to this thread.

I'll receive an e-mail notification of your reply and will respond as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience.
Dear Alan, Thank you for replying to my call for help. I followed your instructions and now have HijackThis as a permanent folder. I am really grateful for any further help you can give; these zippapromos pop-ups are sickening! liffey
Hello Liffey and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Please download the List Installed Programs script from here. Unzip it and double click InstalledPrograms.vbs to run it. It will create a notepad file. Copy/Paste that information as a reply to this thread. Also post a fresh HijackThis log.
Your antivirus program will need to allow scripts to be able to use this file.
Dear Alan, I hope I've followed your instructions correctly and this information below is what you requested. Again, I really appreciate your help. One more step before the removal process begins.

Download RegSearch.zip and extract the contents of the zip file to it's own folder.

Open and double-click the icon for RegSearch.exe to launch the program.

Enter Instant Access in the top window, rqncewb on the next line and click OK. After completion Notepad will be opened with all the found instances. Please post that log.
Hi Alan, Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately I have not been able to download RegSearch.zip. I get an error message saying it can't be opened from this server. I'm sure there is a simple way round this. I just don't know it. Sorry for being thick. Any suggestion? Paul
Thanks again for your very quick response, Alan. I think I followed your instructions accurately and hope this is the log you referred to. It's all a bit 'white magic' to me so I am indebted to your guidance. Step 1
Download and install Reglite. We'll use this program later in the fix.

Step 2
Download Pocket Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Unzip the files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rqncewb.exe

Check the option for "Delete on Reboot". Click the button with the red circle with a white X in it. Click 'yes'. When asked to reboot choose 'no'. Copy the next filepath and paste it in the box, and repeat the above steps.

C:\WINDOWS\Downlo~1\EGDACCESS.inf
C:\WINDOWS\system32\EGDACCESS_1057.dll

When all of the filepaths are done, allow it to reboot.
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

While the computer is booting up, tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter'.

Step 3
Open HijackThis, run a scan, and check the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Instant Access] rundll32.exe EGDACCESS_1060.dll,InstantAccess

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 4
Open RegLite and copy/paste the following string in the address window then click go.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Right click the "rqncewb"="c:\\windows\\system32\\rqncewb.exe -start" value in the right pane and delete.

Then copy/paste the following and click go.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\rqncewb.exe

Right click the rqncewb.exe key in the left pane and delete.

Then paste,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Instant Access

click go and delete the Instant Access key in the left pane.

Exit Reglite.

Step 5
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete. (This will cause your computer to boot-up slower for the first few boots. Please do not be alarmed.)

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Every username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Files), be sure to also select delete all offline content.
Empty the Recycle Bin.

Step 6
Reboot normally and run at least two of the following online virus scans making sure to reboot in between each one. Allow them to fix anything they find.
You need to use Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers.
Bitdefender
Pandasoftware
Trend Micro << Click Auto Clean
Symantec Security Check << click scan for viruses
RAV Online Virus Scanner << Enter your e-mail address and click on To continue without subscribing
McAfee

Write down anything that can not be fixed.

Step 7
Scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread. Include anything that can not be fixed by the online scans. Let us know if the popups stop.
Dear Alan,
Gosh what an operation that was! On the machine over three hours, a lot for me. Thanks so much for all your help. Don't know yet if the popups have stopped, nor if I followed your instructions perfectly. I know I didn't manage to do the F8 bit at the end of stage 2 and only hope this wasn't crucial. The RAV scan seemed to suggest everything was Ok - no suspicious files nor viruses- but McAfee were much more concerned. 49 viruses they reckoned, with one even getting a dangerous as opposed to simply critical rating! The HKEY came up a lot as critical. Here is the HJT log. Please let me know if there is more I need to do and I will be in touch as soon as I know about the popups.
Thanks so much again for all your advice.
