Hi James, Welcome to TomCoyote. Since you did not tell me what your problem is I will guess it has something to do this dialer?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
http://www.pchell.com/support/tscash.shtml
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas…library/Sysupd/

I would like to run some toolsbecause they can clean areas HJT can not. I suggest because of the nature of a dialer you stay offline as much as possible until it is gone. Please do this:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) I see you have Spybot but do you have Ad-aware? You would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

3) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 4) Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new HJT log along with the Ewido scan log in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

    Thanks…pskelley

Thanks so much for your help. I have to apologize for not providing a description of the problem. I have this pop-up whenever I open IE (Select Skin File). It was really more a nuisance than a real problem. Looks like I had a lot more going on.

I updated to Ad-aware SE with the current definitions. I updated to SpyBot SD 1.4 with the current definitions. I downloaded Ewido and CCleaner and ran both. Here is the Ewido scan.

Hello again James, Thanks for that opening feedback, I see a lot of tracking cookies in the Ewido scan and I wonder if you ran Ad-aware and Spybot first as they should have removed tracking cookies? I also believe CCleaner, if run before the Ewido scan would have gotten them. I am sure you are aware that these cookies accumulate fast, I block them all but it is a little work. Now that you know where they are located, run your scanners then check to see if they have been removed. While technically not malware, I just do not believe anyone should be able to track your activities without asking permission.
We did have some real nasties towards the end of the Ewido scan and it looks like some may have been stored in "Tools" in Symantec and this could be a quarantine area. You should investigate that and clean Symantec on occasion if anything is removed and stored there. It does look like Ewido did the job and cleaned you up.

Your HijackThis log:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe This is an optional removal I believe you should make. This item is installed by aol without your knowledge. If you do not use it, I would like to remove it. I will proceed assuming you want it gone and if that is not the case, pass over that portion of the instructions and let me know. Here is a little information:
http://www.greatis.com/appdata/u/v/viewmgr.exe.htm
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/V…r.exe-6093.html

AWS Weatherbug, Versions prior to 6.0 are known to deliver adware, I will remove it all and if you still wish to use it, once we are finished, download the newest version 6.0. Please see this:
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.minibug.html

You need a folder so HJT can store HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. Please return here: C:\Documents and Settings\James\Desktop\HijackThis.exe. In the Desktop folder RIGHT click and make a new folder called HJT. Move the HJT.exe and the log that should be there into that folder.

We need to turn off Microsoft AntiSpyware, it will block the HJT fix:
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

I am a little suspicious of items running from C:\, malware writers somethimes hide them there. Could you validate this item for me: C:\lotus\notes\ntmulti.exe

Let's proceed like this:

Use Add Remove programs to uninstall any of this you see: Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Just to be sure, open Task Manager then the Processes tab. End process on: Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBarBHO.dll

O16 - DPF: {9DBAFCCF-592F-FFFF-FFFF-00608CEC297C} - http://wdownload.weatherbug.com/minibug/tr…uginstaller.cab
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder

Locate C:\Windows\Prefetch folder and open it. Delete the contents of the folder (NOT THE FOLDER) if there are many choose Edit then Select all then Delete. You may not be able to remove them all, don't be concerned unless any have the name of the items we need to remove. Here is some information about the Prefetch for you:
http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6270-5165773.html
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1683520,00.asp

Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer. Post a new HJT log along with your comments.

And here is the latest HJT log. I am still getting the Select Skin pop up when I open IE.

If you are still getting these popups, I will need as much information as you can give me. Names, exact message, how often, anything you think might help.

Thanks…pskelley

Once again…thanks so much for the help. I went ahead and loaded the Weather Bug 6.0. My wife really likes that thing. The Select Skin popup has stopped (much appreciation). Here is the HJT log.

Ok James, That was fun :) I see you added something new from Verizon: C:\Program Files\Verizon\iobi\iobi.exe You had me running to find out what it was. I must say that one item your left in the log:
O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - http://wdownload.weatherbug.com/minibug/tr…Transporter.cab? Should not effect the 6.0 you downloaded, and as you can see this item is a problem, see again what Symantec has to say about it: http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.minibug.html
The rest of the log looks good, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
