I don't see much in there, but we can get that cleaned up. Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked. Then, reboot your computer and post a new HJT log.

It looks like it was just an orphaned entry. Let's try a trojan scan and see what we turn up. Please download a free trial of Trojan Hunter here and run a scan to clean up anything it finds. Let me know what is found, if anything.
Hi, again, did as you suggested, and ran Trojan, nothing at all found, so it would seem that my wee system is pretty clean. Only thing was that the morning after I removed the RO-HKLM thingy, I had a bit of bother booting up, it took about 3 attempts, and I was thinking about just doing a system restore, (once I got in) but it seems to be ok now, though to be quite honest, I really can't see a lot of difference. Anyhow, if you think that all seems well, I'll just plod on, thanks for your assistance, you're doing a good job there, so keep at it. Cheers. JRP
Let's try one more scan, if you have time. Please download the free MWAV antivirus tool from here. Save it to the desktop and run it. Follow the prompts to scan your system for viruses. Then please post for me the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window. Please remove any lines relating to "Invalid object" as they are not needed at this time.
Hi, again, sorry for the delay in replying. I'm not sure if I've done this right, it took about 90 minutes to scan, but here is what was found, hope it helps. I see that total errors were 151, should I do something about them? Fri Jul 22 09:44:49 2005 => Object "altnet Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken. Fri Jul 22 09:45:02 2005 => System found infected with isearch Spyware/Adware (patch.exe)! Action taken: No Action Taken. That is not the log that I need to see. Please see my previous instructions. I need the log taken from the lower window. If you highlight the results there and click the Ctrl button and the 'c' button, it should copy the text to the clipboard and you should then be able to paste it into a response. Please note also that any lines with "Invalid Object" do not need to be included.
Hi, sorry about that. I've done another scan just using the default settings this time, which was quite a bit quicker. Found the same two viruses, and only 47 total errors this time, though still concerned about the 151 total errors in first scan. Here are results: Object "altnet Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken. Object "isearch Spyware/Adware" found in File System! Action Taken: No Action Taken.
Ok, that log looks fine. I don't see anything in your scans that would indicate malware causing a slowdown in your system. I have one final check we can do. Please download SilentRunners from here (version 37). Right-click the link and choose save as. Save it to the desktop and then double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop. Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see. When the script is done running, you will receive a popup informing you as such. Please wait for the script to run completely.
Hi, again, hope this is what you are looking for.

I don't see anything there, either. At this point, I think it is reasonably safe to say that the slowness in your system is not caused by malware. You may want to check out some site dedicated to diagnosing system issues to see if they can help you there. We have a forum here like that as well.
Right, thanks, I'll have a look at that. Should I do anything about the 151 'invalid objects' found in my first scan with MWAV?
