My p.c. is so slow now. I usually do scans with spybot search & destroy, adaware, ewido security suite, spyware blaster, a-squared, microsoft anti-spyware, and AVG Free for my antivirus protection. But I noticed that the p.c. was still slow. So I did a scan using the trial of xosoft and two others I cant remember the names. But they found VX2, OrbitExplorer, MuglyF, Kazaa, Grokster, AltNet, and CWS the real search and much more that the other programs didnt find. I panicked and spent hours downloading different programs and trial versions of softwares. Trying to rid these pests on my own. But I give up, im about to break down. Until I read somewhere about HiJack this. So if anyone could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I really am trying to rid this since i take my classes online and dont want to keep going to outlook express and passing on whatever it is that I have to others. Oh yes, I did a scan somewhere and it said that it found 5 viruses.

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

There doesn't seem to be anything in your log to be concerned with. The programs you mention that you have downloaded and ran should do a good job for you. I would also highly recommend installing the following programs to protect your PC.

Protection Recommendations:

If you dont have these three FREE programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

In addition, I would recomend that you do the following, as a precaution.

Please download the free MWAV antivirus tool from here:
ftp://ftp.microworldsystems.com/download/tools/mwav.exe
Save it to the desktop and run it.  Follow the prompts to scan your system for viruses.  Then please post for me the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window.

Next:

Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
  7. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log and the log of infected files from the BOTTOM panel of the scan window of the MWAV scan. Then we will have another look to see if anything has been revealed.
Please use the Post Reply feature when posting your logs, so I will be notified.
I wasnt able to copy and paste the info from the scan log to post for reply. Is there some other way besides selecting and copying and pasting. I was able to select the info, but wasnt able to copy and paste. It said there was 4 viruses found, along with a lot of other errors and such. This was from that scan you said for me to do with that MWAV software. I also wanted to ask you about this item that was in the HJt log: 016-DPF:{FA3662C3-B8E8-11D6-A667-0010B556D978 (IWin Amp ActiveX Class)-http://cdn.digitalcity.com/_media/dalaillama/ampx.cab

Hi dlited2b;

In reply to your questions.

To copy and paste. Use ctl+a to hilight everything. Then ctl+c to copy. Then when posting, ctl+v to paste. Though knowing that probably will not help in this instance, as there seems to be some other problem preventing you from doing so. We will check further.

The 016 entry you mentioned, can be removed (fixed) with Hijack This. Actually, almost all 016 entries are completely safe to remove if you wish.
However, they will be replaced, when/if you revisit the site from where they originated. The site itself, does seem to be safe to go to.

I see nothing in your Hijack This log about which to be alarmed.
However, since MWAV reported some findings we should investigate further.

MWAV is a Virus Scanner, so lets run a few online Virus scans to see what they can find. These are normally quite reliable. If you should have any problems using one, just go on to the next.

Please use the following links to run one, or more of these online Virus Scanners and let them fix whatever they find.
When using Trend Micro, be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If any of these scanners finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it, or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.
Bitdefender and let it delete everything it finds.
TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed.

Reboot when done.

I did note that you use Ad-Aware. Please do the following.
Run Ad-Aware with the latest update.
  • Download the latest version of Ad-Aware (Ad-Aware SE Build 1.03) from here.
  • If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware installed, during the installation of the new version you will be prompted to uninstall or keep the older version - be sure to uninstall the previous version.
  • After installing Ad-aware, you will be prompted to update the program and run a full scan. De-select all boxes so that it does not run.
  • Manually run "Ad-Aware SE Personal" and from the main screen Click on "Check for Updates Now".
  • Once the definitions have been updated:
  • Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
    • Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
    • Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
      • "Automatically save logfile"
      • Automatically quarrantine objects prior to removal"
      • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
      • Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
    • Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
    • Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
    • Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
    • Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
    • Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
    • Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
    • Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
    • Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
    • Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
    • Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
    • Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol) and select the following:
      • "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
      • "Obtain command line of scanned processes"
      • "Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
    • Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
      • "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
      • "During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
      • "Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
      • "Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
    • Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
    • Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
    • Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
    • Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".
  • Close all programs except ad-aware.
  • Click on "Next" in the bottom right corner to start the scan.
  • Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT - Even if not prompted to.
  • After you log back in, Ad-Aware may run to finalize the scan and remove any locked files that it may of found. Allow it to finish.
Plug-Ins for Ad-Aware (VX2 Cleaner)
Download the free VX2 Cleaner here
  • Close Ad-Aware SE build 1.03 and Ad-Watch (if running)
  • Install the VX2 Cleaner
  • Start Ad-Aware SE build 1.03
  • Go to “Plug-ins”
  • Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click “Run Plugin”
  • If your computer isn’t infected, click “Close”.
  • If your computer is infected:
  • Select “Clean System”
  • Reboot your computer
  • Scan your computer with Ad-Aware
  • Remove any VX2 objects detected
  • Reboot your computer again
  • Run a second scan to make sure the files have been removed from your computer
Virus warnings while performing a scan with Ad-Aware
While performing a scan with Ad-Aware, a background antivirus monitor may issue an alert, stating that a virus has been found in the temporary directory (%temp%) for the current user. This does not necessarily mean your computer has been infected with an active virus. Most antivirus resident scanners will not scan compressed files and only monitor your memory for the sign of an active viral process.

During a scan, Ad-Aware will temporarily decompress files to scan their contents without activating the content, but in doing so, the file is noticed by the antivirus' resident scanner.

Also, some antivirus applications include an option to quarantine infected files, and when Ad-Aware decompresses these quarantined files, the antivirus background scanner detects the virus moving outside the quarantine area. To avoid this you can either remove the quarantined files via your antivirus application, or have Ad-Aware ignore the antivirus program's quarantine folders/files during a scan.

Then, please run Hijack This again and post the log here, in this string, using the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.
Hi there. I did the online virus scans, nothing from them. Im sorry I thought that I mentioned Ad-Aware build 1.06. I wanted to know if I was incorrect to still follow your instructions for the build I have. The copy and paste worked the other way you told me.

Hi dlited2b;

Sorry, the link provided should give the latest build. The instructions provided were primarily intended to provide you with the proper configuration of the program, in order to get the most results it has to offer. Too often programs are not configured at all by users and so provide less than satisfactory results. So long as you have updated and followed the configuration details, you should receive the maximum benifits the program has to offer.
I can't tell if you have used the configuration offered, but there are some entries in the MWAV log that should have been removed by Ad-Aware. Also, possibly the MWAV scan was done before you updated and configured Ad-Aware, then ran it. If so, some of the entries present in this MWAV scan would no longer be present.

After you have configured Ad-Aware for a full scan, and completed all the directions given previously for Ad-Aware,including downloading the free VX2 plugin and running it, please do the following.

Download the NEW stand-alone version of CWShredder 2.12
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe

Then, please update the program.

Then, close every window, disconnect from Internet and doubleclick the CWShredder icon on your Desktop.
Click Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Next:
Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Beta)

Please go here to download and follow all instructions.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details…&displaylang=en

Next:

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Next:

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Next:
Go to Start > Run and enter: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system, then check these three boxes only and then press ok to remove: Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin.

Reboot and post a fresh Hijack This log in this thread, Using the Post Reply: feature, so I will be notified.

Note: Do not attempt to "Fix" anything in the new log, as we need to see the entire log.
Hello Piatan,
I really do appreciate and am very thankful for you helping me. I did all that you asked me to do with the Adaware and there was no critical objects detected neither yesterday or today. I downloaded the CWShredder and the system was clean of the coolwebsearch. I upgraded my microsoft antispyware and did the tweaking that you said to do. I ran the scan as you said, and nothing was detected. I ran Hijack this and removed what you said for me to remove. I did the disk cleanup as you requested. Rebooted and here is the fresh log from the Hijack this scan:

Hi dlited2b;
Your Hijack This log seems to be clean.
However, I am curious what a fresh MWAV scan would show. Lets run the MWAV program again, then please post the results here, using the Post Reply feature, so I will be notified.

Hi dlited2b To Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter. To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would. The following DIRECTORY CONTENTS (But not the directory) need to be deleted while in safe mode. * C:\Windows\Temp\ * C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested. * C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\ * C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ * C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\ * Empty your "Recycle Bin". One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal. To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account. (winXP) 1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check Turn off System Restore. Click Apply, and then click OK. 2. Reboot. 3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer. Click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*. Click Apply, and then click OK Let me know how your PC is running. Still slow ? Any other problems ?
Hi Piatan, Im not having much problems with my speed, not major. But I did all that you said for me to do in safe mode. still the same thing comes up with the results from that mwav scan. Will I ever be able to get those spyware/adware off and correct those errors. I installed Registry Mechanic and windows washer. I thought they would help with the errors. But they didnt. I know that you are tired of my situation, maybe my case is a lost cause. I really do appreciate all that you have done. My p.c. is running better than it had been before you started helping me. Again, many thanks. :D
Hi dlited2b;
MWAV isn't very helpful in specifying where those objects are, so lets see if we can root them out.
First, lets repeat those online scans we did previously and let them fix whatever they find. Until we got MWAV we used these and depended greatly on them to do the job.

Please use the following links to run these online Virus Scanners and let them fix whatever they find.
When using Trend Micro, be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.
Bitdefender and let it delete everything it finds.
TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

And here are links to two online Trojan Scanners. Lets run both of these too.

http://scan.sygatetech.com/pretrojanscan.html

And here:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Then run the MWAV scanner again and see what it turns up.

Then do an " All Files" search for each that MWAV lists as found in file system. Be sure to first set your computer to show all files by following this procedure.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Then, look in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, for those MWAV says are there and Uninstall/Remove them from there.

Check in "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files" for those MWAV reports are there and delete them from there.

It is just a matter of going where they are reported to be and deleting them.
One word of caution. When found, Right click the file to see if it is a Microsoft file, or one you know and trust. If so leave it undisturbed and continue looking.

And when completely finished, reverse the procedure to hide those files that should be hidden.
So sorry to reply so late. This carpal tunnel is killing me and ive been very ill. I did all that u said for me to do in the last post, except the going in and individually removing each error. I dont know where to even start to look for these things. If you can, could you please further explain this to me. Thank you for your patience and help.
