I need some help to get rid of a very annoying problem on my comp. To get onto the internet explorer I have to run spybot to get rid of five entries called DSO exploit. These entries are changing something in the registry. I have ran spybot, adaware, and mcafee virus scan. nothing gets rid of the problem for good. it just keeps coming back. will someone please help. I have a feeling this is an easy fix but i just dont know what to do. thanks, here is my Hijackthis log file.

You are currently running HijackThis from a temporary folder. You should create a folder just to hold the HijackThis program and its backups, so the program is not accidentally deleted. Go to "My Computer", click on c:\ and then go to the "File" menu, choose New -> Folder. Name the folder "HJT" or something like that and then please move the HijackThis.exe executable there.

Next, please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here. Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Run the scan and allow it fix what it finds. Please post the log for me to review. Reboot and please also post a new HJT log.
Hello thanks for helping me with this problem. I ran the ewido and updated my spybot. My computer seems to be working fine now, the only problem is its a little slow sometimes. here is my newest hijackthis log.

You may also optionally check the following entries to be fixed:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
You have P2P Networking installed. While P2P Networking isn't technically spyware, it installs spyware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I highly recommend you fix this. There are safer programs you could use, without the risk P2P Networking presents. Please see this article.

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML
Viewpoint is often installed without the user's knowledge and is not required for the normal use of your computer. I recommend removing it.

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked. Reboot your computer and post a new HJT log.
I erased all the selections here is my new HJT log.

That log looks clean. How are things running? Also, you said that you erased the entries. You meant that you checked them to be fixed, right?
Yes I meant I checked the entries to be fixed. There is still a couple of small problems though. when I first go to get on the internet a box comes up and says something about dns entry and to clear the cashe before reclicking on internet explorer. When I press OK the screen clears off and I am able to get on explorer. ?? and another minor problem with my computer is the low battery light keeps blinking red even though the battery is full. can i get rid of that. I would also like to reduce the number of programs that start up when the computer starts up. Is there a way to keep the programs but not have them start up at boot? Thanks for everything again.
Ok, so if I understand correctly, you have the following problems:
  • Error message on opening Internet Explorer referring to a DNS error.
  • Low battery light issue.
  • Removing the number of items in your startup area
On issue #1, what page does your Internet Explorer open up to?
On issue #2, that is not really spyware related and you would most likely need to conatct your computer manufacturer.
On issue, #3, I can make some suggestion for removing extra items from your startup. Let me know which ones you would like to keep and I will provide instructions for removing the rest.
