Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like you guys to look over my hijackthis log just to be safe. I got a strange email this morning with an attachement that I opened. I won't get into why I opened it in the first place. Trust me, I know better!

Anyway, the computer started acting stange after that. NAV and Ad-Aware come up with nothing. Just wanted to be sure.

Thanks.

Hello DanaF, Welcome to TomCoyote forum, sorry to keep you waiting. If you still want help this is what I suggest you do.

1) Start by unstalling this program: C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe See this >> http://castlecops.com/startuplist-2643.html and here: http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/libra…ing/index.phtml then there is:
http://www.mainstream.net/security_howto/d…e_sharing.shtml
http://www.infopackets.com/gazette/2003/20…ng_software.htm
http://www.infopackets.com/gazette/2003/20…ware_part_2.htm
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/05/03/…ain692765.shtml

You can find information about bad and good sharing here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

2) You have Ad-Watch.exe and it will block HJT from working, you can try this:
In the Ad-Watch window have them check the Active option instead of Automatic and it will stop undoing your fix.
1. Right-click on Ad-watch icon in the System Tray.
2.Go to Ad-Watch Settings and uncheck Load Ad-Watch on Windows start up
3. Again in Ad-Watch Settings Select Unload Ad-watch.

3) Make sure this program C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe is version 6.0, earlier versions contain adware.

4) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

See this >> http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.minibug.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess the only interesting thing to report is that during the CCcleaner scanning, Nortaon AV detected and deleted a virus. That's interesting since I scanned for viruses already and it came up clean.

Here's the new log:

BTW, being surprised at what you've found, I've posted my wife's log in another thread. Some of the same things you pointed out on mine may also show in hers. I'm sure you guys will have a field day with hers!!
Hello Hello DanaF, Great job of following those directions. There is one line that I missed :( I apologize and I think since you removed the folder it is just a line left over. Try to remove it with HJT without disabling Ad-Watch. It may go easy and it looks like this:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART Once it is gone your log will be clean. If you have any problems getting it off your computer, let me know. Since you will have a clean log when that is gone, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Posting another log is optional.
