I recently googeld this site when i found CWS on my computer, I used adaware and spybot s&d to remove cws..I updated my adaware today and now it finds CWS in my regristry but locks up when I try to remove it. I also had a VERY dificult time getting into safemode. I recieved an error from Hijack this but couldn't retrive it from clipboard :( Here is my hijack this log:

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"




Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.




Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.





Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.


Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot
I need you to go into Msconfig> Startup and check everythnig. Make a note of the ones you have unchecked before posting a new HJT log. DO NOT reboot. After you create the HJT log, you can go back and uncheck those again. No need to reboot.

copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Everything seems fine so far, I had to turn on a lot of services :( I have a large amount of the turned off for increased gaming performance. I'll post again in a few if there are any problems.

After turning on all services I noted that windows said i needed an up date ( i usually do this manually once a month) however my windows 32 hosts file seems to be corrupted ([Error number: 0x80072EE2]

My avast script blocker is not working correctly and it seems there are some files missing?

I noticed that in your first log. You need to re-install it once we're finished.


I suggest you do this:


Please download hoster from the link below.

http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Unzip Hoster.zip
Open Hoster.exe.

Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"

Close program when complete.


Do you want Google or Yahoo to be your Start Page?

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem: " I looked at my download history from Windows and it installed "windows installer 3.1," when my system was infected, then failed on four other instalations……… I can no longer use windows picture and fax viewer..it tries to use "windows installer" and locks up. When i try to use printscreen and paste into word it locks up as well…. My network icons have disapeared and I get a dialog box that asks for " get_enumEveryConnection" (ok) .. ….. Also I cannot use print screen to capture images and put them in word. All of this started today…I'm stumped.any suggestions? :scratch:

Yup, i can get through the update process…however i cannot install anything…my windows installer "freezes" , as well as the other problems with windows picture and fax viewer I mentioned before..it keeps trying to install it and freezes… :blink: I thought I found a fix at microsoft..but because windows installer freezes I can't instal….uh…that sounded bad but you get the idea :oops: My notepad icons look funny and my print screen windows docs look like regular word …… reformat??
