Hello cburson, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. Please follow these instructions:

1) Your HJT needs a folder to store the HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. You are like this now: C:\Program Files\hijackthis.exe Return to the C:\Program Files and RIGHT click on a blank spot. Make a new folder called HJT. Move the HJT.exe and the log that is there into that folder. Now it will look like this:
C:\Program Files\HJT\hijackthis.exe.

2) You HijackThis.exe is outdated. We are currently working logs with v1.99.1. You can try to update from within the program like this:
To update HJT, open the program, then click on Config to the right. Then on the top line, choose Misc Tools.
On the left column choose "Check for update online". Follow the instructions.
If you have problems because this is a very old version, download here:
http://www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html

3) You have a New.Net infection. I have yet to run into anyone that downloaded New.Net on purpose, but if you did, stop now and inform me. To rid yourself of it do this:

Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall NewdotNet. If you don't have that option or if you have difficulties then please follow the instructions on this site

Once this is done, then post a new log using v1.99.1 and we will see what is left to do.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi again  good job getting rid of that hijacker and updating HJT to the currect version. I guess two out a three ain't bad…lol. Let's review the instructions from the first post:

1) Your HJT needs a folder to store the HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. You are like this now: C:\Program Files\hijackthis.exe Return to the C:\Program Files and RIGHT click on a blank spot. Make a new folder called HJT. Move the HJT.exe and the log that is there into that folder. Now it will look like this:
C:\Program Files\HJT\hijackthis.exe.

Here is where your HJT is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe
If temp files are deleted which they will be in the cleaning process you will have no backups and a .zip file can't make a backup. Please follow the instructions to fix this. If you need more help, here are two tutorials:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html
Note: This video tutorial requires Macromedia Flash to play.
http://www.spywareaid.com/index.php?file=svideo&id;=1
For safety reasons it is best that you do this before continuing with the instructions. Thanks.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) What we have left are optional fixes, items I suggest you remove. I will schedule the removal, and give you information under each item. Review the information and if you agree with me, then follow the instructions.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O3 - Toolbar: hp toolkit - {B2847E28-5D7D-4DEB-8B67-05D28BCF79F5} - C:\HP\EXPLOREBAR\HPTOOLKT.DLL
resource waster, if you don't use it check it. See this >>

This is adware: see this >>
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/grayware/v…E=ADW%5FPOP%2EA

You may check and remove any 016 DPF that you do not know or no longer use. If you make a mistake the file will be replaced the next time you visit the site.
Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

ALCXMNTR.EXE >>> file ( you will have to search for this one, I think it is in C:\Programs\ Be very careful with the spelling as there is another files near where it is that must not be removed and is spelled differently.

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi pskelly
Again, thanks so much for all your help! I had only a couple of things come up.

I think I may have deleted Kazaa a long time ago, but I did not uninstall it first. I get this:

Error in C:\WINDOWS\System32\cd_clint.dll
Missing entry: ServiceRunDll

And then after I ran ccleaner and restarted I got this error:

Windows cannot find 'C:DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\BarMan.exe'

ANyhow, here is my new HJT log. It will take me a day to ssee how much better my pc will run now. BUt I am sure it will be much better thanks to you!

Hello cburson, Please post another log that is posted like you did the first two. Do not doublespace or use wordwrap. Please open HJT and click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile", wait until HJT produces the logfile in a NOTEPAD. Click on Edit, Select All then copy and paste that information to this thread. Hello cburson, Thanks much for that new log and it is clean of malware  let me give you this information now and then we will look at your error messages.
Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

(please read through all information first, as the last solution may be your best choice)

I think I may have deleted Kazaa a long time ago, but I did not uninstall it first. I get this:

Yes, even if you uninstall some of these programs with Add Remove programs that can still occur. Sometimes a good register cleaner is required. If you should use one, be sure to back up the registry before proceeding.

What I suggest you do first is use your search companion to locate any "Kazaa" items left on the system. Write the path down then navigate to them and delete them if there. You may have to do this in safe mode if Windows won't let you delete them:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html
If that does not work, there is a downloadable tool: KazaaBegone 1.10 here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3446 It is very important your read this:

Warning: This version has a bug that can cause your Internet connection to be broken when removing New.Net, WebHancer or CommonName. An update is being worked on. If you still want to use KazaaBegone, download LSPFix to fix your Internet connection (download it before you run KazaaBegone, of course).
A Kazaa uninstall which scans and removes all elements of all Kazaa versions, as well as all of the bundled software that comes with it.
Limitations: You need the Visual Basic 6 runtime librariesinstalled. This is used for any program written in Visual Basic and is quite common.

Even though it has been removed, we did have New.Net to remove earlier. Here is the LSPFix in the event you try this: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4180.html

And then after I ran ccleaner and restarted I got this error:
Windows cannot find 'C:DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\BarMan.exe'

I can understand that CCleaner would remove this item, but any TEMP item can be removed manually so there is really no reason I can think of you should be getting the message? I did find instances where the error message occurs at Google: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…&q;=BarMan%2Eexe
I even found the BarMan.exe here: http://www.nutgal.100megsdns.com/gamepage/gamepage.htm Do you recall this game as being part of the DPF games you have plugged in to ActiveX? Appears something did not uninstall and this does happen with poorly written software.
It may help to search for this also: BarMan.exe to see if any instance of the game are located. If so, move it to your recycle bin the see if the error message goes away. If it does great, after a few days so you are sure nothing else is effected, empty the recycle bin.

I also wish to point out that http://www.ccleaner.com/ also cleans the registry, see this:
Registry cleaner
Advanced cleaner to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more… also comes with a comprehensive backup feature.

Make sure you have the latest version: v1.19.108. During the cleaning process you should have cleaned under all three tabs. For the registry, click the Issues tab. By default all boxes should be checked. When you click "Fix Selected Issues" after your scan, you will be prompted to Backup the registry. Do so for safety, then complete the fix. This should clean out those leftover entries.

If you don't have this information it will be handy when you think about SP2
