Hello Justina, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you are still looking for help please follow these instructions in the order posted.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) You have some nasty problems on your computer. It is going to take some work to clean it up. You have a Wintools infection and we will clean it first, follow these directions:

Go to Add/Remove Programs thru Control Panel. Uninstall the following if they exist:

Window Search
Win Tools
IEtools
IESearch
Windows Assistant
WindowsSA
Search Assistant
Windows Search Assistant

When uninstalling you will be prompted to insert a security code. Please do so and reboot when done.

If you do not see these two programs in your Add/Remove programs then download and run both of these uninstallers:

http://lop.com/new_uninstall.exe
http://lop.com/toolbar_uninstall.exe
______________________________________________________________________
3) Use Start, Setting then Add Remove programs, Uninstall these two programs:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\VIEWPOINT\VIEWPOINT MANAGER\VIEWMGR.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETRATINGSNETMETER\NETMETER\NIELSENONLINE.EXE
NetRatings Premeter spyware

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\LimeWire\ >>> Folder

C:\Program Files\NetRatingsNetmeter\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe >>> file

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Justina
Hello Justina, Were you running Selective Startup in MSCONFIG? I see no evidence of that fact yet I am seeing programs that were not in the last log:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\WACKGET\WACKGET.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WACKGET\WGET.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\JASC SOFTWARE INC\PAINT SHOP PRO 7\PSP.EXE
I need to know what the first two are? If you know they are valid.

If these items were turned off in MSCONFIG, I need you to enable everything and post a log letting me know everything is enabled.

If you are downloading new programs in the middle of a complicated malware fix, I would appreciate it if you wait until I am done then you can do as you wish.

These items need to be removed with HJT
Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Post a new log in this same thread.

C:\PROGRAM FILES\WACKGET\WACKGET.EXE and C:\PROGRAM FILES\WACKGET\WGET.EXE is a program that lets you manage your downloads and let's you resume them. I was probably downloading CCleaner at the time.

I think I have everything clean now unless I missed something.

Sorry about taking up so much of your time.
Justina
Hello again Justina,

Sorry about taking up so much of your time.

I am here as a volunteer for only one reason…I want to help you, so please do not be concerned with the time. Thanks…Phil

Thanks for the information about your download manager, I see it now: http://www.slunecnice.cz/product/Wackget/exe/ what language is that in, I can just barely speak and read English? :(

It looks like you got the really bad stuff. There are a couple of items I think should still go and they were identified by the trojan scan. I wish to say that you have a lot of Downloaded Program files which are the 016 items in the log. If you look back at what the trojan scanner found, the first two items after the cookies were the two you just removed. The scanner called them Riskware and Adware. We call them hostile ActiveX. You just removed those two items.
There are more that need to be removed and while you are doing that you should look at each 016 - DPF and if you see any you do not know or no longer use, check and remove them also. If you make a mistake the next time you visit the site you will be prompted to download the .cab file again.

The last item I am not sure, but it may be part of the uninstaller for WinTools and should not pose any problem for you. Perhaps CCleaner will get it for you.

I will mention that these items:
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Download with &DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download &all with DAP - C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\dapextie2.htm
Seem to be part of Download Accelerator Plus? If this is the case and you no longer use the program, you can add them to the HJT removal if you want.

Once you have finished with HJT, I suggest you run another trojan scan to be sure and I would also update and scan with your onboard antivirus. Once finished, please post a last log for a final check. I have some great information for you from some experts in the malware removal field.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

next is optional, please view: http://www.pchell.com/support/wildtangent.shtml read: What is Wild Tangent? Your call.

Justina
Hello Justina, Thanks for the opportunity to help you with your issues. :) Your HJT logfile appears clean, congratulations and good job
To help you stay clean and safe online, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

This is a questionable item, I usually remove them, I would consider using HJT to remove this item:

Here is some information: http://www.pchell.com/support/wildtangent.shtml
http://www.iamnotageek.com/a/245-p1.php This is your option.

I think you said you have Spybot, I also suggest Ad-aware. Both have new versions so use this link to down the new and configure them. They will remove the tracking cookies for you that do accumulate quickly if you surf a lot:
http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

Cookies: I suggest you do a little Google: http://www.google.com/ searching for cookies or tracking cookies, so you can learn a little more about them. They are not all bad, and I could show you how to stop them all but you would then be limited in what you could do at sites like password, banking, etc. that will not function unless you allow a cookie. Learn a little more and you will find out how to limit cookies. In the meantime, use Ad-aware and Spybot on a regular basis to delete the cookies as the accumulate.

I have none on WindowsXp and I can't find any information saying it is bad. Go there and mouse over it. Perhaps it is nothing? Right click and select properties if available, see if any information there helps you. I would leave it alone.
Is this a HP machine? http://docs.hp.com/en/B3909-90014/ch08s05.html

website.ocx: Not on WindowsXp, Keep in mind that not everything the trojan scan finds is bad. If it is there, then make sure you are enabling hidden files: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html Then search for it to see if it can be located. If it is hidden you will not find it searching unless you enable the hidden. Once you locate it then navigate to it and check carefully to make sure it is bad. If you need help, you can browse to it and upload it with this tool: http://virusscan.jotti.org/ If you are told by that scan it is bad, then delete it. It does seem to have to do with a Downloaded Program File but I am not sure deleting them all would remove it?

I will leave this thread open for a few days in case you have questions, safe surfing…Phil

Thanks…pskelley
