Hi there,

Having an ongoing problem with my PC and am looking for some help please !!!

After surfing for approx 30 mins, a Ring Tones pop up activates and knocks me off line. When I then try to log back onto BT Yahoo, I get a Dialler Box where the name is Der Biz and a strange associated password. I then have to shut down and restart ans sometimes have to even usep XP's Restore Point to get everything back to normal.

Unfortunately I reckon that my Restore Point now has this problem sitting in the background !!!

It's happening more often now. I've tried recommended Adware, Hijacker and Spy ware Removal s/ware but non of them have succeeded in getting this wretched Der Biz out of the system !!!

I run Hijack This and have the following Log Report to show you all.

I was hoping someone might be able to look through it and hopefully be able to identify any culprit entries that I could delete ?

Alternatively any other suggestions would be most welcome ?

Here's the Log File details :-

Hello vinylman, Welcome to the TC.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Many thanks for your kind help & hoping to hear from you again soon Cheers Vinylman
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
hi again LDTate,

did exactly what you said and here are the results :-

We need to do this again.

Make sure you close the internet.

I suggest you do this:

Did you install this?
winsys.exe
Winsys.exe Win-Spy - surveillance software that creates records of everything people do on a computer, ie, spying or monitoring depending upon how you call it

Do you know what this program is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Peter Hughes\Application Data\alcu.exe

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

ALL 016's. They'll come back if needed,

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Search for and delete these files if listed:
wuam.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Pynix.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ogwvk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
c:\windows\system32\wabntm.exe

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi again LDTate,

I followed everything as you said and here is the latest Hijackthis Log File for your review and comments.

I answer to your opening questions, I did not install winsys.exe and I have no idea what alcu.exe is ?

Should I leave these or delete them ?

Only other thing that has happened is that the Windows Screen is no longer filling the whole screen panel - it is leaving a small vertical black bar down the right hand side of the screen. Ant thoughts on this ?

Meanwhile here's the latest Log taken after all your actions were completed :-

Hi again LDTate,

Screen problem now resolved thanks - just me being stupid I think !

Both win.exe & alcu.exe were no longer within my C Drive when I searched - so they seem to have gone now already !

I followed everything else you requested and have attached the latest Hijackthis Log.

My Computer does seem to be operating faster than previously although I can't yet be sure that the Der BIZ has really gone because it only normally kicks off after being on the Net for 30 mins to 1 hour

Do you think we have possibly won now or is there anything else more to do ?

Here's the latest Log for you to review :-

Good Job

Lets do this and after you've been online for awhile, let me know how it's going.

Log looks good :D

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Hi there, Was just wondering why I need to remove all my old Restore Points ? Can't I just take a new Restore Point from NOW and use that as required ? Cheers Vinylman
Thanks for reply - I'll do this presently. Am just downloading the 3 s/ware programmes you recommended. I already use Norton Antivirus regularly but do not use a firewall because I had some problems with Norton firewall. Is your FREE FIREWALL easy to configure & use ? Many thanks Vinylman
