Hello Art and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Nothing wrong in the log just some orphaned entries. Were you have any specific problems?

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Here's my updated post. Thanks so much for taking a look at it. I haven't had any specific problems. I just got a new computer and want to make it airtight. I read a PC magazine article that said if you use CounterSpy in conjunction with Hijack This, then you can get almost all malware off your computer. I was just curious as to what got on there in the browsing I've done and how to identify malware in a Hijack this log.

Thanks again for all your help!

I've never used Counter-Spy so I can not say how good the program protects your computer. I do however use the programs listed below and have not had any problems since installing them. :)

Your new log appears clean.

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are three very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE
a² Free Trojan Remover

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
I'm already using firefox and like it a lot. You mentioned using ie spyad to restrict bad sites. Does that work with firefox?
Ie-spyad only works with Internet Explorer. You may want to download a custom hosts file to protect you with Firefox. This will prevent your computer from going to known bad sites.

Hosts file
