Hello bigbrother

You will want to copy this and put it in a Notepad file, on your desktop, to refer to as you work. Also, please download all the Programs below at this time, so you do not have to stop and hook back up to the Internet after you begin. Please do not attempt to use old copies or old versions of these Programs. Doing so could result in a failure of the fix.

Download the NEW stand-alone version of CWShredder 2.12
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe

Then close every window, disconnect from Internet and doubleclick the CWShredder icon on your Desktop.
Click Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Next:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. I'll need a copy of the scan, so be sure to keep it to post at the bottom of this post.

Then, Please REBOOT.

Next:
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following entries:If they are still there.

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

The following are recommended fixes:Unless you know and trust the following, please fix with Hijack This. They must also be Uninstalled/Removed in Add/Remove Programs.

O2 - BHO: deskbarBHO Class - {A8B28872-3324-4CD2-8AA3-7D555C872D96} - C:\Program Files\Deskbar\deskbar.dll
O23 - Service: eManager 2.5 (eManSvc) - Dumac Business Systems, Inc. - C:\PanBackOffice\Programs\eManServ.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK, and delete them (if they are present):

C:\Program Files\STHomePage(Also Uninstall/Remove in Add/Remove Programs in control panel.
C:\Program Files\STLinks (Also Uninstall/Remove in Add/Remove Programs in control panel.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\prvdi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

C:\Program Files\Deskbar(Only if fixed with Hijack This and removed in Add/Remove Programs.)

C:\PanBackOffice\Programs\eManServ.exe(Only if fixed with Hijack This and removed in Add/Remove Programs.)

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Reboot , enable hidden files and post a fresh Hijack This log and the log from Ewido, in this thread, Using the Post Reply: feature, so I will be notified.

Note: Do not attempt to "Fix" anything in the new log, as we need to see the entire log.
Thanks a lot for the help.

I followed the steps to the letter. I don't see any naked preteens when I launch IE now, but ewdio did complain about nail.exe after my last reboot. I selected clean and block so far so good. Here is my latest log.

Hi bigbrother;
It could have been a lot worse. Lets get you some protection, in addition to that which you may already have.

Protection Recommendations:

If you dont have these three FREE programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

Here's a nice little cleanup program.
Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • Click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution : It is not recommended to use the 'Issues' tab as it is known to find legitimate items.
  • After it has completed it's process, click Exit.
And finally;
One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK

Now wasn't that fun. ;)
Glad we could be of help.
