Hi Dave, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need some help, please follow these directions in the order posted.

1) Here are the problems, review this information in case this trojan has altered any of your security, etc. that you have to repair.
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojmadtola.html
http://castlecops.com/clsid-1791.html

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: Local Spool support DLL - {00C9D850-244D-10E1-B3C1-10805E499D95} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lspoolnt.dll
OpenWares "ContextuAd" adware
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: iexplorer - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iexplorer.dll
trojmadtola

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iexplorer.dll >>> file (may be gone)

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi
Thank you for your response. I have completed the actions as stated. I had problems deleting iexplorer.dll as access was denied, how ever I used delete on reboot in hijackthis which worked fine. The online scanner you recommended found two files but would not remove them as it did not have the function. So I downloaded a program it recommends call a2. Below is my log file

Right on Dave  you did just what you should have. You could also have deleted the item in Safe Mode, but HJT does lots most folks do not know about. As far as the scan for trojans, I use it because it is simple if nothing is found, you did just what you are supposed to do. Your log appears clean of malware :D congratulations and great job. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

I also want you to know that free training is available at several sites, including this one, if you ever wish to learn more about this process. We are out numbered.

Excellent thanks your help, I just did the obvious. I did try safe mode to delete the file but I think the Trojan was started during win logon hence was running even in safe mode as I got the same error (I’m not an expert so could be wrong). Once again thank you for your help!! P.S “If you are reading this information…thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English…thank a soldier” is a great phase.
