Thanks for posting the new log.

Going to get you to do a few scans to see if that will thin some of the baddies out.

Please do scans at Panda ActiveScan and TrendMicro HouseCall. Let them fix anything they find. Reboot your computer between each scan.

Next, if don't have them, download and install Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. Visit this page for proper configuration of the programs. Run and scan with both, letting them fix whatever they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

Post a new HijackThis log when done.

I am going to turn this thread over to one of our Classroom Members, didom, as he had a fix done up for you and was waiting for approval to post it when I answered. After you have finished the scans… please follow didom's instructions to continue with the fix. Thanks

'KG
I'll take this thread from now! :)

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

Click Start–> Control Panel–> Add or Remove Programs–> Uninstall (if found) any instances of:
Windows AFA Internet Enhancement

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.
Download CCleaner and install, but do not run it yet.

Please download the Nail/Aurora Spyware Fix from NoIdea.US.

Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode. To do this with Windows XP, you can follow these steps from Microsoft:
  • Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when you the Boot Menu appears.
  • Select an option when the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press ENTER.
  • When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start, and then press ENTER.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd that you unzipped earlier. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

Next, run Ewido again.
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
Then run HijackThis, click Scan, and place a checkmark by the following item:

Hi didom! Thanks for the info. I will try your instructions either tonight or tomorrow. But I have a question about your instructions. You state near the end of the instructions to delete the folder C:\ProgramFiles\OptimumOnline However, Optimum online is the provider I use to connect to the internet via a cable modem. If that folder is messed up, I guess I'll have to reinstall it. Correct? Thanks again for all the instructions.
fast65, hold off on this fix. We need to do some more research with some items in your log. Will post a corrected fix soon.
You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

You have SpySweeper running on your machine and that is good.

But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it need to be turned off.
Please do the following.

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".

Unlessit is turned off itcould interfer with the fix by hijackthis.

OK. I went through the instructions.

However, in the Ewido program, I missed the chance to save the log. After the scan, it said that there were archived programs it could not fix and asked if I wanted to delete them. I said yes. But after that, there was not chance to save the list.

Any way, here is the lastest hjt log

OK. I went through the instructions.

However, in the Ewido program, I missed the chance to save the log. After the scan, it said that there were archived programs it could not fix and asked if I wanted to delete them. I said yes. But after that, there was not chance to save the list.

I can do without the Ewido log! So next time you don't have to save it…

* You have SpySweeper running on your machine and that is good.

* Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C370527A-24A7-4583-BE01-72E59000EB17} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\n.dll

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Make sure all hidden files and folders are visible (Instructions )
Reboot your computer into safe mode (Instructions)

Find and delete these files and folders (if they are still there):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\n.dll <= this file

Reboot your computer back into normal mode and post a new log,
Here is the latest hjt log. My computer is behaving better already. Thanks.

This log is clean!

Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Creating a manual restore point is an excellent idea before installing any new software or hardware. It's also a great idea if your PC is working perfectly and you want it to stay that way!

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available… be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them….

Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.

Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.

This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and following the prompts.

Please post back if you are still having any problems….
Didom Thank you very much! Regarding Firewalls. I have a question. I have a broadband router connected between my cable modem and and my computer. Someone told me that this acts as a firewall. Is the router a sufficient firewall? Thanks. Fast65
Great job

You're more then welcome.
Glad we were able to help

Peace be with you :wavey:
