G'Day Mate, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. You have a bit of a mess here. If you still need help, please follow these directions in the order the are posted.

1) You are hijacked by New.Net, I will assume you did not download this on purpose, but if you did, stop everything and inform me of this fact. Instrutions for removing this hijacker are:

Please go to add/remove programs and uninstall NewdotNet.  If you don't have that option or if you have difficulties then please follow the instructions on this site

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items: (if the uninstalled did it's job, some New.net lines may be gone)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

This item should be gone, but check for: C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\NEWDOT~1 >>> folder

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi Bill, Good job  you were 99% successful. You are aware you have this program onboard: C:\Program Files\NielsenNetratings\bin\insight.exe It is not malware and if you know it is there, all is well.

I should have caught this before, but you do not have a folder for HJT. It needs a folder to store backups, logs and the HJT.exe. Right now they should be all floating around on the Desktop. If you would create a new folder and call it HJT, then move everything into that folder, it would be great, thanks.

I am interested in the result from the trojan scan, could you report it in the next post.

Now to the 1% I have not had this issue before so I will share all information with you as we proceed with caution. First this information about what New.Net does:

LSP-Fix is a free utility to repair a specific type of problem associated with certain Internet software. This type of software is known as a Layered Service Provider or LSP, a piece of software that can be inserted into the Windows TCP/IP handler like a link in a chain. However, due to bugs in the LSP software or deletion of the software, this chain can get broken, rendering the user unable to access the Internet.

If you search you would find a EULA agreement somewhere where you installed a program and gave New.Net premission to install along with it :( hense a good reason to have your attorney review all EULA agreements prior to installing anything…lol.
Bill, the keywords here are: unable to access the Internet. Here is what the Winsock hijack looked like in the first log:
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by New.Net
O10 - Hijacked Internet access by New.Net

Everthing was removed by the program that put the junk there in the first place but:
Second log: O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\program files\newdotnet\newdotnet4_85.dll' missing

I have not seen this before, it always removes New.Net completely. We can't use HJT because of the nature of the hijacking, in fact HJT will not remove 010 items for this reason. If the chain is broken you can't get to the internet. I will suggest these options to fix this.

1) Look over this information and try this again: http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html

2) Use this tool: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm Here is an excellant tutorial and the tool can also be downloaded from here.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Usi…kers-tut59.html
I strongly suggest you review all the information at both links so you are aware before proceeding. If you should run into an issue you do not understand, please post the question before proceeding. This is the item you will remove:
newdotnet4_85.dll
All going well, O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'c:\program files\newdotnet\newdotnet4_85.dll' missing will be gone from your next log and you will be 100% clean.

I feel so good about you being able to clear this last hurtle that I am going to post the all clean information so you can start to benefit from the knowledge these folks have. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
