I have already run Mcfee virus scan, Ad-Ware and Spybot and I was unable to delete the infected files, so todayI downloaded and ran hijackthis and this is my log. The name of the three virus are ventura5, subinstaller, and installermarketing18.
I thought the log was a little short so, I hope I ran the program correctly
Thank you for your help.

Hi lawstudent18

Welcome to the TomCoyote Forums. My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Go to the Tom Coyote Forums http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?
.Click on My Controls near the top middle of the window (make sure you have signed in first)
.On the left hand column, click "view topics"
.If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at that place in control panel, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification", By doing this, you will be notified as soon as I have posted a reply to your log.

3. Now I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

Weatherbug

4. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\AWS

5. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

6. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

C. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren
Trevuren, Thank you for reading my post. I will follow your directions this afternoon when I turn to that computer and post a new log. lawstudent18
Trevuren,

Sorry for the delay my computer was in the shop they were able to delete the computer virues I told you about and that stopped a lot of the pop-ups, but I still get pop-ups from auora and there is a nail.exe file and a svcproc file that are still there and i'm not sure if they appear in the HJT log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

2. Download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow…050515010747824
. Click on Spyware Utilities
. Chose Nail/Aurora Fix
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

3. Next, reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

A. Restart your computer
B. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
C. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
D. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

4. Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

5. Now run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

6. Run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - (no file)
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O2 - BHO: CExtension Object - {0019C3E2-DD48-4A6D-ABCD-8D32436323D9} - C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fisuxz] c:\windows\system32\nwctagu.exe
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/22701816cc397b…ip/RdxIE601.cab
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

7. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following files, if they are present:

c:\windows\system32\nwctagu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

8. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Trevuren
I clicked on the link for the Nailfix and but it didn't ask me to click on Spyware Utilites or let me chose Nail/Aurora fix. It asked if i wanted to download file and I clicked save to desktop and I used the Windows Wizzard to extract the files from the Nailfix icon with the zipper and I now have two icons on my desktop one says Nailfix with the zipper and other is Nailfix without the zipper. I just wanted to know if I did it correctly before i restart the computer in Safemode. lawstudent18
This is my new HJT log and Ewido log. I hope I ran the programs correctly.

We have to do it again.

1. Re-download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow…050515010747824

Unzip (or extract)it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

7. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following files/folders (and all their content), if they are present:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
bdoscandel.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe

8. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Trevuren
I downloaded the nail fix again and I'm running the ewido scan again. I wanted to know if the ewido scan was working because when it finds an infected file it only gives two choices clean or none. I didn't have the choice of deleting the infected files so I chose to clean each infected file. Also under quarantine there is a list of all of the infected files and three choices refresh, restore, and remove finally. I wanted to know if I should do anything on this page or chose the remove finally button and remove/delete the infected files from the quarantine list. I will post the new logs as soon as the scans finish. Thanks for all your help. lawstudent18

GOOD JOB, it's all gone. You can just delete that folder with the bad stuff in it.

Congratulations, your new log shows that your SYSTEM IS CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you are completely clean:

1. Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files from the backup that Windows makes as no program is able to clean those files:

TO DISABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1. Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
2. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
3. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
4. Left click on "Apply"

TO ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE
1.Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
2.Click on "Apply"

2. Cleanup the leftovers. Download CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.

3. Finally, Re-hide your System Files and Folders to prevent any future accidents.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
  • Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My Favorite)
