I have ran ad-aware & deleated a ton of stuff, also I have ran spy bot, I have Norton 2005, And everytime I run Norton it picks up 20 or more viruses & deletes some of them. I can not get norton to update either.I run the gotomypc so I can monitor from home & have never had problems with it, I also run Zone alarm. I am connected with DSL- I have ran hi-jack this and here is the log- also this is my first post on here, so thank you in advance to anybody willing to help-Josh

Hi Mitoska1977

Welcome to the TomCoyote Forums. My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1. Go to the Tom Coyote Forums http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?
.Click on My Controls near the top middle of the window (make sure you have signed in first)
.On the left hand column, click "view topics"
.If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at that place in control panel, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification", By doing this, you will be notified as soon as I have posted a reply to your log.

3. DELETE your current version of HijackThis (It is in the wrong place)

4. Download the most current version of Hijackthis (v.1.99.1) to a folder of its own. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Please click on the "My Computer" icon, then the C: drive icon. Next Right click on the desktop and choose NEW from the list available then> Folder' and name the folder 'HijackThis'. The end result should resemble something like this C:\HijackThis\

B. Download Hijackthis from:HERE

C. Double Click on 'HijackThis.zip' to extract and install HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

D. Close ALL windows except HJT

E. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

F. POST the log in this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi Mitoska,

Please save these instructions to a text file in Wordpad or print them out because we will be restarting in Safe Mode and you will have no Internet Connection
  • Download CWShredder.
  • Save CWShredder.exe to a convenient location.
  • Please Do Not Use It Yet.
  • Download AboutBuster.
  • Unzip AboutBuster.zip and it will install in it's own folder.
  • Double-click on AboutBuster.exe and then click 'OK' then 'Update'
  • Click "Check For Update" and then "Download Update".
  • Click "Exit"
  • Please Do Not Use It Yet.
Disconnect From The Internet

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and tap F8 repeatedly while booting up and choose Safe Mode at the menu.

In Safe Mode Please Clean with CWShredder
  • Please Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
  • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
  • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
  • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
In Safe Mode Please Use AboutBuster
  • Please Double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
  • Click "OK" then "Start" and then "OK" to allow AboutBuster to scan for all bad files.
  • Click "Yes" when About Buster asks if you will allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
  • Allow AboutBuster to scan for all malicious files.
  • Repeat the scan if it asks to do another.
  • After the scan, click "Save Log". Post the log in your next post as it is necessary to make sure all has been cleaned
  • Then Click "Exit"
This infection often deletes necessary system files.
Reboot your computer back into normal mode so that we can see if any files need to be restored.
  • This infection deletes the windows file, shell.dll.

If you are using Windows 98/ME please download shell.dll from here: shell98-dll.zip. Once the file is downloaded uncompress the zip file and copy shell.dll to the following locations
    C:\Windows\system
  • Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.
  • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Then click Start > Run > regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll" and press the OK button
  • If you are using Windows 95, 98, or ME it is possible that the malware deleted your control.exe. Please check for the existence of this file by going to to Merijn Files control.exe and examine where the file should be for your operating system. If the file is missing then download the appropriate file and place it in the proper place according to this information.
  • There are several other files that are not targeted as often as the above, but new copies of them can be downloaded from
    Merijn Files
Online Antivirus Scan
  • Please go to The TrendMicro Housecall website.
  • Allow it to scan and fix anything that it finds.
  • Please Clean out temporary files:
  • Start> Run> then type cleanmgr and click enter
  • Please put a check mark beside Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin
  • Let cleanmgr scan your system and remove the files indicated
Reboot and Post a New HijackThis Log and your About Buster Log in this thread, using Add Reply to see what is left to clean.

Regards,

Trevuren
I have downloaded cws shredder, but I can no download aboutbuster, I can unzip it, but when I click on the exe file a window pops up and says "The database is either corrupted or missing plese download a new one." I have tried a few times and The same thing keeps happening- Also when I reboot I get a msdos logo in the bottom left corner of screen that says "Matcli" then it disapears after a while
Hi Mitoska,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner on this matter but I have run into the same problem myself and have attempted downloads from different sources with the same result.

I finally got it to work by Creating a folder on my desktop and extracting all files, one at a time, and extracting them into this folder. Honestly, it took me a couple of attempts before succeeding.

Try it several times please and don't forget to update the program before using it.

Regards,

Trevuren
Ok, I ran cwshredder & about, then I followed you instructions, and I installed the new control.exe but I could not install shell.dll, it said it was running. I also tried to use the housecall scan & it never worked Explorer kept shutting down, and any links I clicked on that housecall site would take me to a search engine- Here is the new hijack log & about log

Hi Mitoska

1. Please DELETE your current HJT program from your Desktop.

2. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

A. Close ALL windows except HJT

B. SCAN with HJT and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi mitoska,

The disinfection did not work properly the first time. Please follow these instructions to the letter and return the logs that are requested.

Print out these instructions or save them to your desktop as a text file with Notepad because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.
  • Prepare CWShredder for use:
    • Download CWShredder.
    • Save CWShredder.exe to a convenient location.
    • Please do not do anything with it yet.
  • Prepare AboutBuster for use:
    • Download AboutBuster.
    • Unzip the contents of AboutBuster.zip and an AboutBuster directory will be created.
    • Navigate to the AboutBuster directory and double-click on AboutBuster.exe.
    • Click "OK" at the prompt with instructions.
    • Click "Update" and then "Check For Update" to begin the update process.
    • If any updates exist please download them by clicking "Download Update".
    • You should not run the program yet so click "Exit".
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.
  • Run CWShredder:
    • Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
    • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
    • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
    • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
  • Run AboutBuster and save the logs:
    • Browse to where you saved AboutBuster and run AboutBuster.exe.
    • Click "OK" at the directions Read: Important! prompt.
    • Click "Start" and then "OK" to allow AboutBuster to scan for Alternate Data Streams.
    • Click "Yes" at the About:Buster prompt to allow it to shutdown explorer.exe.
    • Please wait while AboutBuster scans your computer for malicious files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.
    • When it has finished, click "Save Log…". Make sure you save it as I will need a copy of it.
    • Click "Exit" and "Exit" again to exit AboutBuster.
  • Clean out temporary files:
    • Start | Run | type cleanmgr | OK
    • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
    • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
    • Click "OK" to remove them.
    • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
  • Restart your computer normally to return to normal mode.
  • Free TrendMicro Housecall scan:
    • Vist the TrendMicro Housecall website.
    • Select your country from the drop-down list and click "Go".
    • Choose "Yes" at the ActiveX Security Warning prompt.
    • Please wait while the Housecall engine is updated.
    • Select the drives to be scanned by placing a check in their respective boxes.
    • Check the "Auto Clean" box.
    • Click "SCAN" in order to begin scanning your system.
    • Please be patient while Housecall scans your system for malicious files.
    • If not auto-cleaned, remove anything it finds.
    • Click "Close" to exit the Housecall scanner.
    • Choose "Yes" at the HouseCall message prompt.
  • Prepare your reply:
    • Please post a fresh HijackThis log
    • Please post the AboutBuster log.
    • Please note any complications you had.
Regards,

Trevuren
I have followed your instructions but again when I get to the free housecall scan I get a bunch of phony windows error messages, I end taks them, then I can get to the part to where you select what drives you want to scan & I click auto clean but the "SCAN" button is greyed out so I can not push it to scan. Also I do not get any active X things
Hi Mitoska,

In that case, please replace the housecall scan by this one by Panda.

Choose to "Disinfect automatically," and follow the prompts. Delete any viruses found, and restart your computer.

Regards,

Trevuren
I used AVG & it deleated 40 viruses, I then used Panda & it detected 150+ viruses, but it is unable to delete any of them?
I manually found all the junk panda picked up & manually deleated most of them, because I am trying to sell tickets to Star wars and porno adds keep popping on my screen-Here are the new logs
