Hi!

First, I've heard good things about HijackThis (thanks ahead of time!), so I downloaded it and have already ran a Log file, which I've included below.
Second, the original issue was, we had a nasty "Trojan.Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.C" problem that gave us a blue desktop wallpaper screen with a warning. I found the file and "successfully" got rid of that, only to find now we have a black screen, and our original wallpaper options are gone. Hmm.
I'm sure there's probably many more problems to be found in the log file (we've got tons of "sexy stuff" for example!)… Unfortunately husband and I are total newbies to computer "challenges"!
Can you give us a hand? Any suggestions or assistance would really be great!
Sincere thanks,
Ricki
PS- Lots of the files are in German- hope that's ok?

I'd super appreciate it if someone could take a look! Also, since then I've run Microsoft Anti-Spyware (Beta 1), SpyBot S & D, and Ad-Aware SE Personal (I have over 1,000 in quarntine with Ad-Aware, but I didn't know what to delete for good!). My computer is still super slow, and I can't get rid of the black desktop wallpaper. (Very depressing!) Since it's been more than 5 days since the original HJT Log, here's my new one. Thanks a bundle!!!:

Hello rickikoinig, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi, and thanks for your responce! My problems have gotten significantly bigger since our correspondence… I ran Microsft AntiSpyware (Beta 1) as I usually do every few days before I run anyother scanware. Before and as I was running it, many popups appeared and I also got a new unwanted green button on my desktop reading "Click Me" (which I didn't of course), and two new unwanted buttons on my bottom task bar- one of a little black and white terrier dog head, the other looking like a small grey planet (both of which I also didn't click on). The Scan found 32 "severe" viruses, of which it then deleted. Then I rebooted the computer, as usual, and then after the computer rebooted I had nothing left on the desktop except the wallpaper! No tool bar, no START button, no icons, nothing. I'm scared to do anything else because my husbands' doctorate dissertation is on this laptop (his fault he didn't save it elsewhere anyway:) ! Any suggestions? SUPER THANKS!!!! PS- I have no idea how to "reboot in safe mode" (I read users doing that in another forum) or anything like that, so could you please explain in detail if that's what I should do? Thanks for your patience!!!!
Boy, you're very nice and patient with me (thanks!).

OK. Now my icons and tool bar are all back to normal. Don't ask me why! I just have tons of popups, Ad-Aware finds "new critical objects" every 30 minutes if I keep scanning and rebooting over and over again, and I still have that green "Click Me" button on the desktop that won't "uninstall". Hmmm. There's definately some questionable things here in my HJT log, too! Here's my new log:

You're the best! :D

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi again!

Actually, I have to say I think it all worked! My computer is running way faster, there's (cross my fingers) no annoying popups, and everything seems better than "back to normal"!

I've attached my latest HJT file for you to take a peek at just in case I missed something. Also, should I keep scans like Ad Aware, Spybot, and CWShredder on my computer along with my normal Microsoft AntiSpyware? Or is it ok to delete those programs now?

Let me know what you think, and sincere thanks again for all your surpior help!
R

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

You need to update both Windows XP and Internet Explorere as they are both well behind in updates. They are both missing Service Pack 1 which is leaving you open to all kinds of problems.

I DO NOT suggest you go to Service Pack 2, at this time.

Service Pack 1 for XP

Service Pack 1 for Internet Explorer.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks again! I'll do what you've suggested, and I really appreciate how clear and easy all your directions were! You're the tops! R :wavey:
