My computer has been hijacked by the AdClicker-AF trojan. It sends my start page to here4search.com and generally slows everything down. Adaware, Spybot and McAfee have been little help. If anybody could help me get rid of this thing I would greatly appreciate it. And additionally, I have been having huge problems downloading Hijack This Version 1.99.1. I get a message saying that I do not have permission to access the file.

Anyways, here is the HJT Version 1.98.2 log. Hopefully it is good enough to do something. Thank You very much.

Hi shayburgh! I'm 'KotaGuy. Welcome to TomCoyote!

If you still require assistance, could you please post a new HijackThis log. It has been a few days since you've posted one and something might have changed since then.

Before you post, I would like you to uninstall/delete the old version and download the newest version here. Extract(unzip) it to its own folder. Run the program. Press the Do a System scan and save a Logfile button. Copy/Paste the complete contents of the log into a reply to this thread.

Thanks!
Hi 'Kotaguy - thank you very much for your help. I tried to run the newer version of Hijack This again (after deleting old version and downloading newer version to its own folder) but it still will not work. Upon trying to open the file I get a message saying "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item". This is the same message I was getting before I posted the other log. Any ideas? Thanks, Shay
Ok, got it now. I did not realize that XP Home only allows you to login in as an admin through safe mode.

Thanks.

Here is the new log:

OK… good enough. Though only being able to log on as the Admin in Safe Mode doesn't sound right… you should be able to log in as the Admin in normal mode too.

I need HijackThis logs that are posted when Windows is booted normally. I got the info I needed from your latest post with v1.99.1, so you can use the old version for now if you still have it.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks for posting the log.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
Thanks for your help.

Here is the l2mfix log:

Do you recognize these two lines or know why they might be there:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,AutoConfigURL = http://wwwcache.ed.ac.uk/config/proxy-config.pac
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = ftp=localhost:8080;gopher=localhost:1080;http=localhost:8080;https=localhost:8080
yeah, the first one is the edinburgh university proxy server which I have to use to access the internet and the second one looks like a firewall bypass that I used a long time ago to bypass the university's firewall. But I haven't used the firewall bypass in months.
Ok…

I need you to disable TeaTimer as it will interfere with the fix. To do this:
  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Click the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
  • On the left hand side, Click Tools then Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.
Once your log is clean you can re-enable TeaTimer.

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check beside the following and Fix:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\W8C6S4~1.DLL (file missing)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: 8c2gxx9meecg.dll

Boot to Safe Mode.

Search for and delete 8c2gxx9meecg.dll

Browse to your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Delete all the files in the folder, do not delete the folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner.

Reboot Windows normally and post a new HijackThis log please.
Hi shayburgh. Haven't heard from you in about a week. Was just wondering if you still required help, if so, could you post a new log as something may have changed since you posted the last one. Let me know please.
