Also… would appreciate if one could tell me if there is anywhere to get help for Outlook express problems.

Luci
Hi Luci! I'm 'KotaGuy. Welcome to TomCoyote!

If you still require assistance, could you please post a new HijackThis log. It has been a few days since you've posted and something might have changed since then.

Before you post though, I need you to update your version of HijackThis. Please uninstall/delete your old version and download the newest version(v1.99.1) from here. Extract(unzip) it to its own folder(do not run it from inside the zip or a temp directory). Run the program. Press the do a system scan and save a lofile button. Once it is done scanning, notepad will open up. Copy/Paste the complete contents of the log into a reply to this thread.

Could you explain to me what issues you have with your computer.

Thanks!

Runs slow sometime. I have a problem with Outlook Express. I can't type below the subject line and can't send messages. It states "Message has not finished downloading, can not be saved until download is complete" when trying to send.
Thanks for posting the new log.

Do not run HijackThis from a temp directory. Please move it to its own folder(eg: C\Program Files\HJT\HijackThis.exe).

Download and install CCleaner. Don't run it yet.

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all other browsers and windows closed, place a check beside the following and Fix:

You can, if you wish, fix the rest of the 016's as they will reinstall if needed.

Boot into Safe Mode. To do this:

1. Reboot your computer.
2. Tap the F8 button as your computer is booting to bring you to the Advanced Options Menu.
3. Select Safe Mode and press Enter.

Browse to your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Delete all the files in the folder, do not delete the folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner.

Reboot Windows normally and post a new HijackThis log please.
Attached is new log, but computer is slower.

Good Work!! Your log is CLEAN!!

The slow boot is normal for the first couple times after deleting the items in the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. It should be back to normal after a couple reboots.

Are you having any other issues with the computer? Any of the previous symptoms?
No other issues, and it is great having Outlook back. Thank you for your prompt assistance. It is very much appreciated.
Good to hear… glad I was able to help you! :D

Some suggestions for you…

You should uninstall the old version of AVG and download the newest version here. As version 6 uses an older scanning engine, it may not catch some of the newer strains of viruses. Once done, update it and do a full system scan.

To clean up any remnants that may have been left behind, I suggest doing a couple online virus scans. A couple good ones are Panda ActiveScan and TrendMicro HouseCall. Let them fix anything they find. Reboot between each scan.

If you don't have these, download and install Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D;. Visit this page for proper configuration of both programs. Run and scan with both, letting them fix whatever they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

Along with Ad-Aware and Spybot, you might also want to look into installing SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD. You can grab them from the links in my sig. The programs are free and can be updated, so please remember to do so. Installing these will go a long way in preventing reinfection.

I also don't see any evidence of a Firewall installed. I'm sure you've heard of ZoneAlarm.

Check out the links in my sig named How'd I get Infected and Understanding Spyware as well, some good information for you :)

Other than that, remember to update Windows frequently, update your protection programs, scan often and…
