hello, new to tech support forums, so i hope i do this right. i use mozilla firefox for my browser and i have Aurora popups endlessly. it automatically re-spawns when i kill the processes associated with it, and i've looked around in forums and it seems to be a real menace. anyway, here is my HJT log:

Hello shinobi_tabi, welcome to the TC.

Click the link and Download this trail version of Solo AV. Install it and scan.

After the scan:

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
okay i did as you said. regarding my computer behavior, it seems pretty good except for a few hitches: 1) the constant Aurora popups, 2)sometimes it wont shut down. this shutdown hangup occurs, usually, after i perform a system scan with a virus scanner. i'll choose to restart and the system will shut down all the running applications and then just sit there, showing me my desktop, with the mouse still being functional. i've figured out that if i ctrl+alt+del and kill the explorer.exe process, then choose restart from the task manager "shut down" menu, it works. i don't like doing this, because i dont know if it has any affect on whatever the virus scanner does upon restart, plus it's just annoying. anyways, here's my new HJT log:

thanks again!
Please disable AdWatch, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable AdWatch:

Open AdAware SE.
Go to AdWatch User Interface.
Go to Tools and Preferences.
At the bottom of the screen you will see 2 options Active and Automatic.
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Uncheck both options. You can enable these after resolving your problem.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Please do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

Then please run Ewido security suite, and perform a full scan. Remove anything found, and please save the logfile from the scan, because I will ask you to post it here for me later.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
thanks for all your help! my computer has been running fine since i posted those logs! one thing remains undone, however…whenever i start the computer and it's loading all the startup programs in windows, it notifies me that Nail.exe cant be found, to which i just click "OK". i know this is a good thing, but i was wondering, how do i get my computer to trying to run it at startup? getting tired of clicking the messages. ;) thanks again! i'll get those programs you recommended tomorrow. cheers! -eli

Save this text as Fixme.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on Fixme.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.
i've been very busy, so sorry for the late reply. anyway, i did the regedit you posted, but my computer is still trying to find and run Nail.exe at startup. i went and searched through the registry for any remaining instances of Nail.exe and it doesnt exist. again, this isn't a major issue, just a minor inconvenience. thanks for all your help, couldn't have done it without you. :D
Lets look at what's in the startup. click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key. look in the Startup. List everything there and point out which ones have a check next to it.
okay here's what i have in the startup tab, all of them are checked: RECGUARD ccApp SynTPLpr winampa SNDMon Logi_MwX daemon SynTPEnh Ad-Watch mcappins mcupdate picsvr nsvsvc dumprep 0 -k farmmext 2005419155115_m… zlclient avgcc avgemc Adobe Gamma Loader i have the feeling i should uncheck picsvr and nsvsvc, but of course i wont do so until you have a look at this. mcappins and mcupdate should be gone, since i uninstalled mcaffee a while ago..right? as for the numbers….i have no idea…your guess is probably way better than mine. also, i think i should slim down my security package for space and organizational reasons…here's what i have, please let me know your opinion: Ad-Watch/Ad-Aware - this is a full, registered version i prefer to keep. Norton Antivirus - this came with the computer, i want to get rid of it because it keeps asking me to renew, and it isn't very co-operative. Spybot Search&Destroy Solo Antivirus Scanner ewido Security Suite - seems like a good program, may want to register it. ZoneAlarm Pro - as per your suggestion, though is trial version AVG Antivirus - also as suggested by you, full free version, seems nice. and there we have it. i feel like cleaning these things up because i'm feeling a little scrambled with all of this, and i'd like to keep it down to a few choice programs. any suggestions? thanks -eli
You still have adware in the computer. Lets see if we can get rid of it before we do anyting else.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
ok i ran Spybot SD and Ad-Aware as you said. i'm not sure which log you meant for me to post, so i'll post a HJT log, and if you need another one, let me know.
