Hi there, when I open Internet Explorer I often get a pop-up for filehost.com. Also, Norton Antivirus have detected Trojan.Vundo.B virus in the following file of my hard disk: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\crdvd.dll. I think this can be related to my filost problem, since the Norton definition of this virus says "Trojan.Vundo.B is a Trojan horse that is designed to drop adware onto a compromised computer." Unfortunately NA is not able to fix the file, nor to put it in quarantine and not even to delete it.
Can someone please help me?

Hello Roberto , Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP! I ran PandaActive Scan and the filost problem disappeared. :D :D :D About the virus, Norton finally put out a removal toolkit, so I managed to get rid of it.
I suggest you "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread. There might be other items that need fixed.
Thanks a lot for your help. Unfortunately the problem with filost showed up again. :rant2: :rant2: :rant2:
I had my hard disk checked by all the programs you linked and now my HijackThis log file is the following (my pc uses the Italian language, so for instance "Programmi" means "Programs" and "File comuni" means "Common Files"):

Can you please help me again?
I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

016's ALL They'll come back if needed,

O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34545} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Download Pocket Killbox version 2.0.0.175
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/KillBox.exe
If you already have Killbox first ensure it is this version !.

Start Killbox place a tick next to [x]delete on reboot.
Copy this whole list into the windows clipboard, all the Bolded below.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

Back in Killbox go > file > paste from clipboard,
Click the red highlighted X button and say yes to the prompt, then click OK.
Exit Killbox and restart your PC.

We also need to "Show hidden files and folders." click HERE to learn how to:

Search for and delete these files if listed:

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
First, let me tell you: THANKS A LOT for answering me so quickly.
I followed all your suggestions, except when you said "Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.", because I don't understand what exactly I have to do, which folders you refer (sorry, my English is limited!)

By the way I rebooted and it seems to work fine now, the filost pop-up doesn't appear so far.

I give you my new HijackThis logfile:

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thanks a lot, I wouldn't ever get out of this mess without your help. I have an Antivirus and Firewall (both are Norton), whereas I don't have any of the two Spyblaster you suggested. I will install them promptly. Thanks again
Great job

You're more then welcome.
Glad we were able to help :wavey:

After I followed the suggestions given to me by LDTate, my pc seemed to work fine, but unfortunately now my problem reappeares: every time I reboot my pc, the first time I open Internet Explorer I get a pop-up by filost.com. Note that this time at least this pop-up appears only the first time I open IE, whereas previously it appeared almost every time I opened it.

Can you please help me fixing this problem once and for all?
I send to you my HijackThis logfile:

Thans in advance for all the help you'll be able to give to me.

Roberto, please do the following.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up.

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O16 - DPF: {24311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab

Delete the following Files if they exist:

c:\eied_s7.cab
c:\ex.cab
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thanks a lot for helping me again. I followed your hints and now the filost pop-up doesn't show up anymore. If you check our previous post on this thread, you'll see that I already eliminated the same 3 files (c:\eied_s7.cab c:\ex.cab C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll) once before, but shortly after they reappered. I'm afraid they should keep reappearing in the future. Do you think that's possible? Is there any way to get rid of them once and for all?
