I have recedntlt encountered a problem where I get the message csvhost.exe error the memory could not be written, unhandle win32 exception. I also get Data execution prevention error..Generic host process for win32 services. Windows has closed the program. I have an HP psc2510 printer that no longer responds to my wireless network since this has happened.

Any suggestions? Here is my registry log.

Hello and Welcome to TomCoyote forum. Sorry for the wait but the forum is very busy. You do have issues in your log. If you still need help post a new log and I will post back to you as soon as possible. Thanks…pskelley TomCoyote forum Slyware Warrior
Sorry I didn't get back to you for a new post. I've been away. But here it is. I still need help and would appreciate an explanation on what and how it happened if possible.

I still have problems like I have to pull the plug on my modem and router if I reboot my computer, and I get the flashlight when I go to My Computer.

Hello again pop42,

Sorry I didn't get back to you for a new post. I've been away. But here it is. I still need help and would appreciate an explanation on what and how it happened if possible

It's not problem we have plenty to keep us busy. I do not know if your issues are malware related. We will clean up your computer so you can at least rule that out. I may be able to direct you to other help if issues that have other causes are still occuring. If you wish to do this, then please follow these directions in the order which they are posted:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\Program Files\Hotbar\ >>> folder

Look for this folder: C:\Windows\Prefetch open the folder and delete the contents NOT THE FOLDER just the contents.

Let's check for trojans in case any are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks for the help but I still have issues. The only thing I did not do was delete the Hotbar folder as I couldn't find it. Also, should I run ccleaner or hijack this with other users as well as mine?

I got the following messages after rebooting: Data execution prevention. To help protect your computer, windows has closed this program. Generic host process for Win32 services. This popped up three times. Also, Startup monitor warning. Use FaultCheck has registered the executable %systemroot%\system32\dumprep o - u to run at stratup. Do you wish to allow thid change. I said NO. This popped up twice.

I still had to unplug both my modem and router to restart my browser after rebooting.

Her is my new log.

OK pop42, This stuff comes out a lot harder than it gets in. Malware writers do everything they can to hid the junk from us. Don't worry about the hotbar item, sometimes HJT removes stuff before we get to it manually. As far as CCleaner I can't see a reason it would hurt to run it in each user and perhaps when signed in as admin also. As far as other users, I need to see a log for each one. Often stuff will be in one user and not others. Make sure you code or number the logs so we do no mix them up, and post them in the same thread if you can.

System Fault check, I see it often in logs, here is some information about it:
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-1773.html
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/d…%20-k-2423.html

Were you able to clean the Prefetch folder? Often bad stuff will run from there so we can't see it in the log, and I asked for information about the results of the trojan scan, and do not see this information.

Can you review this information: C:\WINNT\system32\HPZinw12.exe http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/…threadId=792082 I was assuming you had a Gateway computer, this may be part or all of your problems. You should contact HP and ask them about the issues. I suggest you follow up with this information to see if that is possible. Since this is a running program, turn it of in MSCONFIG to see what results occur. We are getting into possible issues I can only guess at. Looks like a HP scanner also. Confirm that these observations are correct.

I can see no evidence of malware being at fault in these issues. I will confirm this when I know the result of the trojan scan and see the logs of the other users. Thanks…pskelley
I'm sorry, I did empty the prefetch folder and the Trojan scan showed all OK.

I do have a gateway 770x pentium 4 with windows xp pro. The Hp is my wireless psc 2510 that has presently gone down and doesn't recognize the network.

As I was putting this message together I kept getting the svc host meaasge along with the user fault even though I made the change as you suggested.

My new logA for me as Administrator is:

Hello pop42,

My new logA for me as Administrator is:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 3:33:27 AM, on 5/8/2005
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)

No mention if you looked into this issue. It is very possible your issues are hardware related. See this information: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314056 If this item is malfuctioning it may be possible that a service host error will occur when this happens.

As I was putting this message together I kept getting the svc host meaasge along with the user fault even though I made the change as you suggested.

Please be aware that there are countless possible error messages, in order to even have a change at investigating I need the exact error message word for word with any numbers also. Please also be aware that I remove malware, if as I believe this is not malware related, the changes we made by removing malware in the log will not effect this issue.

This first log is clean of malware.

The log for the other user LogB is:

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 3:47:55 AM, on 5/8/2005
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)

1) You are running two instances of HJT in this log:
C:\DOCUME~1\Susan\LOCALS~1\Temp\HijackThis.exe
C:\unzipped\hijackthis\HijackThis.exe
Please follow the path to the TEMP folder in Documents and Settings for this user (Susan) and delete everything in that folder. NOT THE FOLDER just the contents.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)
(if you did not set these restrictions you may remove them)
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

It would not hurt to run CCleaner in this user also. I am not sure if the URLSearchHook could be at issue, since the file was removed I think it is just clutter. The restrictions are not malware related.

At this point your HJT log will be clean. There is always the possibility of something being hidden that HJT can not see but I doubt it in this case because of the error messages. Malware usually manifests itself in other ways like redirects, popups, etc. If you wish links to deep scans just let me know. I would resolve the issue with HP first were I you. If you want to post the error message as I described I will do a little research on it if you like.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

Pskelley Thanks for all the help with my issues. I did go to HP and found them helpful. They did help me resolve my problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled my printer and now everything seems to be working. I did this before so there must have been other issues, others that you may have identified and helped me fix. Between you two, I am now up and running and working as I was before. Thanks, pop42
This is good news and great to hear. I have had a gut feeling that HP log item was indicating an issue all along. I have a PhotoSmart 7660 myself. Glad to hear HP was able to fix the issue for you. If you can remember and are so inclined you could briefly post the instuctions from HP that helped fix the issue. This may help others with the same problem and as you can see 79 folks have viewd your post since it's inception. Since I have given you the all clear and information to help you stay clean and safe, I will close with a wish for:

Safe Surfing
Thanks…pskelley
