Hello bigames, and Welcome to Tom Coyote

I am going to look over your log and get back to you
as soon as I can.

In the meantime, do this,

* Go to MY CONTROLS/ EMAIL SETTINGS and
ENABLE EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS

* At the top of this post, click on TRACK THIS TOPIC

* Please reply to this post by clicking on the REPLY BUTTON
and not the NEW TOPIC BUTTON

Also, Your Hijack this log is current but it is extremly important that it resides in it's own folder. This is simple to do, just go to My Computer > C:\ Drive and create a new folder and name it HIJACKTHIS, then go to where you currently have HJT installed, right click on the program icon and select CUT, then scroll to the new folder you just created, open it and right click and choose PASTE. So then it should look like C:\HIJACKTHIS\HIJACKTHIS.EXE
Hello again bigames, :D

What I would like you to do is to run HJT (scan only) and put a checkmark in the following entries, close all open windows and web browsers and click on FIX CHECKED

* R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html

* R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…rch/search.html

* O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

* O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/Download…bridge-c283.cab

Now reboot into Safemode….instructions here

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Now enable windows to show all files and folders…

SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

* Click on MY COMPUTER
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW
* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
* Then APPLY/ OK

* Don't forget to reverse this once your computer is clean

Now delete the following folder

C:\Program Files\Media Access <—This Entire Folder in BOLD ONLY

Now reboot normally and download the Hoster program to your desktop.

Please download HOSTER from the link below.

http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip

* Unzip Hoster.zip to your Desktop
* Open Hoster.exe.
* Close all Open Windows.
* Then click on Restore Original Hosts
* Close program when complete.

When your done, post a new Hijackthis log please.
Hello Ken545, I was doing fine until I got to the part to download hoster.zip The error message "IE was not able to open this site." Can I get this file from somewhere else? Thanks for the help so far, grealy appreciated.
Quick question Ken545: was I supposed to reverse the show hidden files before leaving the safe mode (I didn't) or after posting the second log file and you have verified that my computer is clean? Thanks :o
Good Morning bigames,

I'm sorry you had a problem downloading hoster. :angry: I was unaware of the problem because I stopped using IE about 6 months ago. I tried downloading the file from IE on my own system and had the same problem, but it opened fine for me with Firefox. I thought maybe you had your security setting set to high in IE, I lowered mine to the bare minimum and it still wouldn't open. After a few more posts you will be able to receive PMs that I could send you the file in, but until we get this resolved at TC, I would like you to download and install the Firefox browser. Don't let it scare you, it is a very quick and easy download and install, and it will in no way interfere with your IE browser, there is nothing to uninstall. During the setup process, it will ask you if you want Firefox to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. This is an alternative bowser, if your like most of the people here at TC, once you start using it you may never go back to IE. :D

You can find the link to it in my signature. So after you install Firefox, log on to Tom Coyote and open this thread and download Hoster.zip. Before you download hoster, open up Firefox and go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/DOWNLOADS and tick the radio button to ASK ME WHERE TO SAVE EVERY FILE. Then when you click on the Hoster link, a box will come up to SAVE TO DISK….OK, then browse to your desktop.

http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip

* Unzip Hoster.zip to your Desktop
* Open Hoster.exe.
* Close all Open Windows.
* Then click on Restore Original Hosts
* Close program when complete.

As far as the hidden files, you can leave them as is and we will change them back after we are done.

I'll be waiting to hear from you with a new HJT log when you have it all done.
Good morning to you too Ken545,

I got the file downloaded and here is the new logfile.

When I receive a clean bill of health from you I will download Firefox. Thanks again for all your help. :)
Hello again,

Your log is looking much better, I want to go over it again and make sure I didn't miss anything.

I see you have Spybot Search and Destroy on your pc but I don't know if it is current, you can download the new version 1.3 if you need it. You can open the program and go to HELP/ABOUT and it will give you the version number. Here are some instructions to set this progam up correctly. There are so many programs on the internet for spyware removal but a lot of them fall into the gray area and are not worth the money, Spybot, and Ad-Aware SE Personal are both free and do an outstanding job of cleaning your system. While I am looking over your log, download and install both Spybot, Ad-Aware and run them both, also here is a link to a great cleaner that will spoof up your system pretty well and safely too.

I.

* Install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

* If you have the older version 1.2, remove it via ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS.

Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ PERFORMANCE AND MAINTAINENCE/ ADD-REMOVE
PROGRAMS
scroll to that program and click on REMOVE.

* During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
* Go to MODE and click on ADVANCED MODE.
* Then to SETTINGS / IGNORE PRODUCTS and put a checkmark in DSO EXPLOITS.
* Then to SETTINGS / FILE SETS and take the checkmark out of USAGE TRACKS.
* Then to TOOLS/ HOSTS FILE and then on the top click on ADD SPYBOT S & D HOSTS FILES.
* Then to TOOLS/ IE TWEAKS and put a checkmark in LOCK THE HOSTS FILES
* Then check for UPDATES.
* Then to Immunize. then up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on IMMUNIZE.
* Then go to the top to SPYBOT and run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN.
* Then to FIX PROBLEMS and fix all it finds.

Then RE-BOOT your computer.

2.

AD-AWARE SE PERSONAL 1.05

If you have an older version of AD-AWARE You can remove it via
the ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS IN THE CONTROL PANEL

* During installation, follow all the defaults.
* Start the program and CHECK FOR UPDATES
* Choose PERFORM FULL SYSTEM SCAN
* Take the checkmark out of SEARCH FOR NEGLIGIBLE RISK FILES
* Run the scan
* When it is done, RIGHT CLICK ON ONE OF THE ENTRIES/ SELECT ALL/ NEXT and let it remove all that if finds.

3.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Just follow all the defaults and run the cleaner. After your done, Post a new HJT log, along with how your computer is running now, any better, any worse or any concerns you may still be having.
Hello again ken545,

I did all you asked and here is the new log file. Thanks. Will do firefox if all is well. :) Oops! my computer appears to be brisker in opening programs, etc. Thanks :D

Ok, are you ready?????

YOUR SYSTEM IS CLEAN :D

Good job following all my instructions :thumbup:

Here are some tips and some excellent programs to keep you clean, remember that there is no need to buy any other progams that may pop up and offer you a free scan, and stay away from downloading those free WEB REBATES, and free SCREENSAVERS and also the one that offers you a 1000 free smileys, these programs are not free, they come with strings attached in the form of Spyware.

To the good I see you have SP2 installed and you also have a anti-virus program installed as well. It;s important to run the Live update feature on Symantec to keep your virus defintion files up to date. You can go into the program and there is a feature under OPTIONS to have them downloaded on a regualar basis. Symantec ususally downloads there new files about midweek. Have it set to scan your system once a week and enable the email feature to check both outbound and inbound email.

Run both Spybot and Ad-Adware on a regular basis, check for updates, do the immunize feature in Spybot and run the scan.

Run the CClearner every once in awhile , along with the Disk Defraggmenter to keep your system in tip top shape. You can find the defrag program under START/PROGRAMS/ASSESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOLS/DISK DEFRAGMENTER..

Now download and install SPYWARE BLASTER, this program doesn't scan your system like the above progams do but sits in the background keeping most of the bad guys out. Install it, check for updates on a regular basis and enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/

Another good program that you only have to run once is IE-SPYAD, download it, it will make a folder on C:\ IE-SPYAD, open that folder and click on the install icon, install all that it has, starting with #1 to #4, This will put 1000s of bad sites into your IE restricted zones.
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_down…23332&fileidx;=1

Also install Win Patrol, this wil block any changes that a program tries to make to your system, it can be a little annoying at times so when you install a new program, right click on the icon in the system tray and disable it, but it will block any bad guys trying to changs a system setting whle installing crappola.
http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html

When you get a chance, install Firefox, I think you will be pleasently surprised, I love this browser and use it almost 100%. They also have a companion email program called THUNDERBIRD that is so much more secure than Outlook Express, I use this one also.
http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

Well, like the words of the famous Bugs Bunny….THATS ALL FOLKS. :wavey:

If you have problems in the future, please by all means post back, thanks for using Tom Coyote
ken545, thanks a million, you saved the day. :D I hope the problem doesn't recur with all the security measures in place. But if it does, I will post on this site. Keep up the good work! :thumbup: bigames
bigames,

I forgot to mention that your should disable and reenable your SYSTEM RESTORE as all the bad stuff we got rid of is backed up in that program, this will flush all that stuff out and get rid of it. Instructions here….

TURN Off then TURN ON SYSTEM RESTORE

Everytime you start WINDOWS, SYSTEM RESTORE creates a restore point, or if you
manually create a restore point on your own, all WINDOWS files are backed up including any that
we just cleaned that were infected with Malware or a Virus. This is the only way to clean out these files.

(You will lose all PREVIOUS RESTORE POINTS which are likely to be infected)

Turn off System Restore.

* Right Click on MY COMPUTER
* Click on PROPERTIES
* Click on the SYSTEM RESTORE TAB
* Check TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE ON ALL DRIVES
* Click APPLY / OK

RE-BOOT YOUR COMPUTER

TURN ON SYSTEM RESTORE

* Right Click on MY COMPUTER
* Click on PROPERTIES
* Click on the SYSTEM RESTORE TAB
* A message will pop up asking you if you want to TURN ON SYSTEM RESTORE - SAY YES
* UN-Check TURN OFF SYSTEM RESTORE ON ALL DRIVES
* Click APPLY / OK

* Now create a new Restore Point…Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ PERFORMANCE AND MAINTAINENCE...up on the left look for SYSTEM RESTORE and create a new restore point.

Also go here and clean out all your temp files, then empty your recycle bin

This process will clean out your TEMP FILES and your TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES. Please do both steps:

Step 1 - DELETE TEMP FILES

* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

* click on START/ RUN and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. You should do this for each user on your system. Please delete all
files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others.

* Do this same process for %windir%\temp.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

Step 2 - DELETE TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES

* Now I want you to open up INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB, (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.
