Hello effie3, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help please follow these directions:
1) You are running HJT from a Temp folder. We need a permanent folder to store HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. Use the instructions in the following link to correct this.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html

2) You have items running that do not identify, as such we call them random named trojans. I have listed them below for you to look at. If you know what any of them are, pass over them in the fix and make me aware of what the item is.
C:\WINDOWS\addsm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkii.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winnv.exe

3) You are running Spyware Begone which is considered a rouge spyware remover, information here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-s…re.htm#products Look in Add Remove programs and uninstall it if it is there, I will remove it from the log.

4) Open your Task Manager then under the Processes Tab locate, highlite and end process on this item:
C:\WINDOWS\addsm.exe

5) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

6) Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Side Step adware

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\freescan\ >>> folder

C:\Program Files\NavExcel\ >>> folder

C:\WINDOWS\addsm.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkii.exe >>> file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winnv.exe >>> file

We have removed nasty trojans, let's check to make sure all of them are gone, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley

When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed follow these instruction:

Hello effie3, I wish to ask that you slow down a little, read and follow directions exactly. This is not a random list, but and important set of instructions that works properly if you take the time to read and execute them carefully. Thank you.

It looks like the problem is gone. Thanks

1) You are still running HJT from a Temp folder. We need a permanent folder to store HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. Use the instructions in the following link to correct this.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html
These instructions are important, if an error is made and the backup is not safely available we cannot return it if necessary, please fix this.

2) This item is still in the log: O16 - DPF: {0837121A-6472-43BD-8A40-D9221FF1C4CE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00726/sb028.cab, there were two and they are distinctly posted with different CLSID numbers. This is nasty adware: http://www.spywareguide.com/product_show.php?id=477

3) This is my error, we all make them. This looks to be left from the Viewport toolbar that aol installs without asking. No one knows what they do with the information they collect. I strongly suggest you remove this item: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe If for some reason you use it, then please let me know.

4) Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O16 - DPF: {0837121A-6472-43BD-8A40-D9221FF1C4CE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00726/sb028.cab

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore, locate and delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\ >>> folder

Restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks…pskelley
It looks like everything is running normally now.
Thanks

Hello again effie3, I see this is still in your log:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] C:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan

Here is the information from my first post:
If you missed it in error, please read what is said about the product in the link, it tells folks they have stuff they don't just to scare them it buying it. It is not malware, just something that should not really be on your computer. If you want one more try at removing it, then do this:

First, turn off the programs we stopped before that will stop HJT from removing it,
Scan with HijackThis and check this line:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] C:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan
Now click on Fix Checked.
Right click on Start then click Explore, locate the folder c:\freescan and delete it.

Besides this, your log is clean, good job, good luck and safe surfing. Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
