Sorry, what I mean is the kidz computer has 4 different log ins (XP). Everyone had rights and network connections for internet access. Well kidz being kidz they picked up all kinds of viruses, malware, trojans, etc. Ldtate has worked with me to rid pc of above. Thanks again Ld, it was a nightmare with popups and snail pace activity and crashes.
At this time, only my log in gets internet access (Dad). If anyone else logs on everyone loses ability to connect to internet. It's really strange, for instance if I log off and log on as someone else (Timmy for example) then no access. Now if I log off as Timmy and log on as me Dad then access is possible for my log in. If I leave my log in open and switch to another user then everyone is down. Even me.
I've gone over network connections, made everyone administrators and called cable provider, even created a new user with no luck. My guess is there is some type of file corruption, but don't know where to start.
I appreciate any help or direction
Note: Experience shows that it's better to reboot twice. If you reboot once sometimes problems persist, and are gone after a second reboot. Always worth a try
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
Spywareblaster <=SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
Spywareguard<=SpywareGuard offers real-time protection from spyware installation attempts.
How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <=If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
How to use Spybot to remove Spyware<=If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
To protect yourself further:
IE/Spyad<=IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
MVPS Hosts file<=The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
I also suggest that you delete your Temp folders regularly. Use CleanUp! to do this automatically for you!
Hans,
Thanks again for solution, I do appreciate you time.
I have most of the suggested apps on kidz pc already. However,
with XP and having 4 different log ins on same computer would I need to
run things like cleanup individually or does it scan and clean entire c drive temp files? Same question for rest of recommended apps?
Install and run all tools in admin-account. CleanUp takes allready care of all temporary files in the current account plus all other user accounts (this is a option which can be turned off in settings of CleanUp). Other programs should work automatically on each account
