I am running windows XP professional SP1 system. My system got infected with I-search desktop search 2 days back. I wasnt able to do windows update and my yahoo toolbar with the popup blocker disappeared by magic . I had been getting pop ups all the time related to websites I visit. Supposing I googled for spyware them I might get 2-3 popups with spyware advertisements..

I used Trend micro anti virus scan, spybot S&D and adaware. But it wasnt helping much. I couldnt get rid of this isearch desktop search (isrvs/ffisearch.exe and desktop.exe). Then I downloaded spyware doctor and ran all these tools one by one in safe mode. Finally I got rid of them ..But again I found out my system was still infected with mywebsearch. I still was getting popups and no yahoo tool bar and couldnt update windows to SP2 (Update failed).

Then I came across hijackthis , CWshredder and spyware blaster. I fixed couple of things from my system using hijackthis and cwsshredder removed cws.svchost32 and VX2.look2me. The popups have stopped now but still couldnt update windows. I want to make sure if this log file is good. This is the first time I am using hijack this and loading it into a forum . Any help would be appreciated.

My original hijackthis log file without making any fix

Please do let me know if my system is still infected and what should I do to correct it ? Also my system runs pretty slow nowadays (not becuase of this current issue , it is running slow for the past few months , explorer.exe taking up much of memory and CPU %)
Can somebody help me ? I thought I got rid of the spyware but I am still getting popups and looks like the websites I visit are being tracked by this spyware.
Hi,

1. Run HijackThis then click on:
  • Config > Misc Tools > Open process manager
  • Select the following files: (hold down the "Ctrl" key to select multiple items)
  • desktop.exe
  • edmond.exe
  • ffisearch.exe
  • Click on Kill process (Answer Yes to the "Are you sure…" question.)
2. Launch Notepad:
Copy/Paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg and save it on your Desktop.

3. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer "Yes" and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

4. Restart your computer.

5. Launch Notepad:
Copy/Paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as Unreg.bat and save it on your Desktop.

regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\isrvs\msfiltis.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\isrvs\msdbhk.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\isrvs\sysupd.dll

6. Locate Unreg.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it.

7. Delete the following files/folders (if present) in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32
  • delprot.ini
  • delprot.log
  • desktop.exe
  • isrvs (delete the entire folder)
8. Delete the following file: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Delprot.sys

9. Delete the following files/folder (if present) in C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop
  • anal exploits.url
  • big dick school for 2.95.url
  • evidence eraser.lnk
  • popup blocker stops popups.lnk
  • spyware avenger.lnk
  • virus hunter security.lnk
  • your platinum visa.lnk
10. Restart your computer and post a new log from HijackThis.
Hi Hans,

Thank you for your help. But I couldnt do any of the suggestion.

1. I couldnt find desktop.exe,edmond.exe and ffisearch.exe in hijackthis /config /misc tools/ process manager.

2. I copied the fixme.reg into a notepad in my desktop .But nothing happened when I clicked on it. (note: This file is saved as textfile.. is this the reason why it is not treated as registry file?)

3. same thing with unreg.bat. Nothing happens when I double click it.

4. I couldnt find the delprot.ini, delprot.log, delprot.sys, desktop.exe and isrvs in my system. (note: I think I have got rid of Isearch desktop search).

5.I couldnt find any of these files either
anal exploits.url
big dick school for 2.95.url
evidence eraser.lnk
popup blocker stops popups.lnk
spyware avenger.lnk
virus hunter security.lnk
your platinum visa.lnk

Heres my new log file

Download the the FindQoologic-Narrator.zip and save it to your Desktop.
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph…=post&id=134981

1. Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
2. Open the FindQoologic folder.
3. Locate and double-click the Activesetup.vbs file to run it.
Please wait until a "Finished" message appears.

* When the set-up is complete a file named "Activesetup components[Machine ID][date].txt" will have been saved in the FindQoologic folder.

4. Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat to run it.

* The tool will open a DOS window and begin to check your system.
When it is finished a text file will open in Notepad called "file.txt".
* Save this text file in the FindQoologic folder.
* Close the DOS box If on win 98 or me.

5. Open the "Activesetup components[Machine ID][date].txt" file and the file you saved and copy / paste their contents to this thread (as a reply).
1. I downloaded the Find-Qoologic folder to my desktop. Ran the Active setup . This is the content of the Activesetupcpmponenets text file. "Find activesetup", version1, launched at: 09:00 Operating System: Windows XP HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\ "602ef739-46b6-44eb-8119-9efeed127c56\(Default)" = "" \StubPath = "C:\WINDOWS\System32\cbnbabb.exe" [null data] ">{22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95}\(Default)" = "Windows Media Player" \StubPath = "C:\WINDOWS\inf\unregmp2.exe /ShowWMP" [MS] ">{881dd1c5-3dcf-431b-b061-f3f88e8be88a}\(Default)" = "Outlook Express" \StubPath = "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shmgrate.exe OCInstallUserConfigOE" [MS] 2. I couldnt find Find-Qoologic file but there was another bat file named Find-Qoologic2 . I clicked on it , it opened the DOS window but I also got this error 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem ————————————————- C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXE.NT . The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. close to terminate the program. I tried to use the close button but I couldnt close it so I used the ignore button for this error. Finally got a file.txt file . Heres the content of that file. Hi,

Open notepad and copy and paste next content in the field in it:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\gfnfyffs]

[-HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{602ef739-46b6-44eb-8119-9efeed127c56}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{602ef739-46b6-44eb-8119-9efeed127c56}]

Save this as Qfix.reg choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok

Post a new findqoologic-log in your next reply.
Hi Hans, Thanks for the tip. I chose all files and this time I was able to save it as a registry file. I saved the Qfix.reg in the desktop and clicked on it. And said yes when it asked to add the information to the registry. Hi Hans,

I made a few changes in the system . I uninstalled my yahoo tool bar and reinstalled it. It works now. I ran the Anti=spy that comes with the yahoo toolbar. It found some spyware stuff , two important ones it wanted to be removed are SAHAgent, Trojan.win32.revap.c . I removed them.

Heres the new Hijackthis log file..

Hi,

1. Run HijackThis (“Do a system scan only”). Put a checkmark near these lines:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\rvpvzv.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [regsrv32.exe] regsrv32.exe

http://msfm.interwise.com/IWCampus/student…nt/iftwclix.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/17f2554183853c…ip/RdxIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {666DDE35-E955-11D0-A707-000000521958} - http://69.56.176.227/webplugin.cab

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

2. Close all other windows and browsers, and hit Fix Checked.

3. Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rvpvzv.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

4. When rebooted post a new HijackThis log here :)
Thanks for the detailed instructions Hans. I did exactly like what you said. But couldnt get rid of that rvpvzv.exe I guess. I tried to fix it when I was fooling around using the hijackthis for the first time but it kept coming back. Also I forgot to say something I noticed in my system. Spybot search&destroy and spyware doctor takes a longer time to scan the system in the past few days (around 40 minutes now the usual time being 5-10 mins) where in safe mode they run for 5-10 mins.

Heres the new hijackthis log file
