Hello Siggyx,

I have rebooted safe mode with networking. I have also done MSCONFIG trouble shooting and have isolated slow activity to system services. Everything else seems to be running fine. Seems like resources are being eaten up when in system services testing.
I have also trimmed my startup to bare essentials..

Here's my latest hijackthis… :)

Thanks for your help.
Click here to download ServiceFilter, a little script by rand1038 that reveals potential unauthorised running services in your system. Download, unzip and double-click ServiceFilter.vbs (you may need to enable your antivirus program to run the file). This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here.

Then download this program.

http://downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe

Open the program and click the "Run Locate.com" button.
Then click the "Compare" button (this will take a few minutes)
When it finishes click the "Make Log…." button.

Post the dll compare log to this thread.
Hello Siggyx, Here's my servicefilter log; The script did not recognize the services listed below. This does not mean that they are a problem. Nothing wrong there. Lets use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your XP CD to make this work. Click Start> Run> type sfc /scannow (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow) This will repair any bad windows files
Hello Siggyx, This pc that I have came with software pre-installed. Not sure if I have original XP CD. So I used one from work, although it is XP PRO. I ran the command as you directed but not sure if it did anything since the 'run' window disappeared. Was I suppose to get some warning or not. I did not get anything. Just went straight back to desktop. I rebooted to normal mode and I did get better response since I was able to open and close applications and go to the internet without dying. It is still a little bit sluggish though. It takes about a minute to open Mozilla but once in, response was ok. Do you have other recommendations? Again, thank you very much. :) :) :)

Thanks. :) :) :)
It looks a lot better. So far no hang-ups. Your recommendation of the various products to secure my pc, I'm sure I need them all. Can I run the free antivirus AVG and the free firewall ZLS at the same time? Thank you very much for your help. :)
Yes you can run the firewall and anit virus at the same time just make sure that you only have 1 resident anti virus program running at the same time.
If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
